Thread: How do you use glycerin?

I use cake soap in a mug with a badger brush. I just picked up a small bottle of glycerin, and was wondering how to add it to the mix.

Just drop in 5 to 7 drops before or during your lather-making.

Where do you guys find Glycerin?Ive looked at walmart and walgreen's with no luck.Do I need to try an older drugstore?

Try looking in the cosmetic isle. I found it at CVS. The ladies use it to remove cosmetics. As to the amount to use...I use five drops more than that it liquifies the mix. I do not use it with soaps; only creams...e.g. TOBS cream, and the right amount will keep it from drying...good luck.

Just drop it on the soap or into the lather as I'm stirring?

BTW, I just asked for it at the pharmacy counter at Target. I think he brought it out from behind the counter.

Walmart the isle with all the bandaids.

If you lather in a bowl, I would add the glycerin to the bowl. When I use glycerin in my lather, which is now very rare, I do not add more than 5 drops. Glycerin is not needed when you use well formulated products and therefore its used is not recommended. If you go overboard, you can go as far as making your face dry. Also, the quality of the lather can decrease.

For those that constantly ask where to find glycerin: it can be found in the baking aisle at supermarkets, and hobby stores, as well than drug stores. Glycerin has many uses ;-).

As Al raz pointed out Vegtable glycerine can be found in the baking isle - generally near where the frosting making supplies are. Bakers use it for some part of...well...making frosting. The other u.s.p. type is generally found near the bandaids & vaseline type products. Sometimes in a clear bottle sometimes in a brown bottle like what hydrogen peroxide comes in. I use it pretty much whenever I lather either with creams alone or in the "Uberlather" mix and haven't had any issue(s) with drying but everybody is different so it would be an effect to watch out for.

I use it every time I shave with out any issues but your milage may very!

And whatever you do, dont mix it with Nitro...
