Thanked: 530T&H Cream, or TOBS Cream and Soap?
So, here's my recent quandary. I just finished my first puck of soap. A colonel Conk Bay rum... Now, it was a great latherer, but dried too fast.. now that I am thoroughly hooked, I want to get a damn fine cream or soap... Now, I've heard good things about the Taylor of Old Bond Street products, and great things about the Truefitt and Hill stuff...
Here's where my problems start.. I have only ever lathered with Soap... I like the results, but want to give creams a fair try... Now, I have 30 dollars available at the current moment... I can either get a puck of TOBS Sandalwood, and a container of TOBS Cream (Avocado, methinks...) OR I can get a T&H Cream (and only that).
So, my question to ye' Vets: What would serve me better, the Soap and Cream of TOBS, or the one high-luxury T&H Cream... Give me your thoughts
PS. I intend to try out both somewhere in my rotation... which would be a better purchase to start with?
Thank'ee!
Jeremy
Edit: Also, what about Castle Forbes? Anyone had a good run with them? Again, I'm fond of soaps, but also have yet to try Creams, so it's a toss up as of nowLast edited by ShavedZombie; 12-19-2009 at 05:11 AM.

Thanked: 530Oh.. Right, What about TGQ... I've read that it's either a LOVE it, or a can't-lather-it...
Any takes on this?

I am not a vet, but the Taylor Avocado and Cella is a nice combo in your price range. I like the TGQ lavender also, it is not hard to lather. Looking forward to trying Castle Forbes myself

Thanked: 530Well, Like I said, I have 30 dollars, and can either test TOBS cream, and get a soap puck, or I can give a high high high end cream a try... I'm leaning towards the double TOBS idea, becasue I know I like soap, and can lather well, and that also gives me a chance to try cream with a well known, positively reviewed cream... Which means that if I like the cream, go with the T&H, and if I don't, probably get a puck of Fitjar...
It just seems that the TOBS will give me a chance to test a high-er, if not top tier, quality of both cream and puck.... Good way to decide...

Thanked: 530I'm leaning towards Avocado, because it sounds like a subtle, fresh scent, but the Rose one I've heard good things about... I'm leaning away from it on a purely pseudo-masculine standpoint, though

So many fine products and yet only one face.
With thirty bucks you should be able to get multiple
top drawer refill pucks.
On the creams I am seeing some "travel size" packaging
that leaves room in the budget.
Look for a refill puck or two of quality soap and a travel
size of a high end cream and you might stay in budget.
Soaps and creams are funny stuff. What works for one shaver
does not work for others so the travel size or small tube is a
good way to go.

Thanked: 530I have decided to go with a TOBS tub and a TOBS puck, because I know soap pucks work for me, and I've heard so much good stuff about the TOBS cream... and they are high quality at a decent price (relative to the others, for sure)... Now I just need to pick a scent.... I'll probably go with Sandalwood soap, and Avocado cream... But... Meh.
If I like Cream, Castle forbes or T&H are there. If I like soap, I'll probably go for a Fitjar, or one of the CF/T&H Pucks... Or I could like both, and just stock up like crazy and use whatever I feel like on any given day...
I've heard it said, and believe it true, that every single soap or cream, while not always doing everything right, still excells somewhere... Hell, even my old Col. Conk, while being crazy fast drying, lathers with a boar brush in 10 seconds flat. So, I'll guinea pig it

Thanked: 530Alright, Amazon is now mailing me one jar of Taylor of Old Bond Street Avocado Shaving Cream, and one puck of Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Hard Shaving Soap
Hope they live up to the hype... Should beat out my Col. Conk either way.

I don't think you can go wrong with a TOBS cream; inexpensive, lather well, smell nice and feel great. But if for some reason you don't like it please give it to me.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

T&H Cream . . .
My dear Jeremy,
May I suggest one of my favorites? Truefitt & Hill's Ultimate Comfort scentless shaving cream. It comes in a tub, around $30, and it is a fabulous product.
I also have used Taylor of Old Bond Street and Geo F. Trumper shaving crams and soaps, in a variety of scents, but I always seem to nod at Truefitt & Hill's Ultimate Comfort scentless cream more than I do the others.
Regards,
Obie
