Lathering on my Radio City face is where it's at!

Initially I lathered directly on my face for convenience and efficiency, but it has grown on me. Now I enjoy lathering more than I do shaving

    Hi Obie,

Thanks so much for posting this thread, I always enjoy reading them! I always have a look through the new threads each day to see if you have posted a new one! Its extremely enjoyable to share the experiences of a true gentleman!

I used to lather on my face, mainly because I didnt have a mug or scuttle to use. This worked very well for me, and I love the feeling of the warm brush on my skin and the rich heady aromas of the creams and soaps I use.

My lovely girlfriend treated me to a shaving mug recently and I have started to use that instead of lathering on my face. I soak my brush in hot water in the mug before I start lathering, then drain most of the water and make the lather with the hot water remaining.

This gives me a rich thick lather that stays hot for a long time, without affecting the scents of the soaps and creams.

I also find that the mug helps me make uberlather if I have time that day, as I am able to add glycerin and other ingredients to the pot before I start lathering. Thats my treat on a Satuday morning, a big warm foamy mug of uberlather..!

    All the best,

    Stuart

Default Lathering On my Hollywood Face

    My dear Stuart,

Bless your heart for the fine words. I am humbled. Many thanks.

The scuttle, of course, is magical for keeping the brush warm. I always fill it with boiling water from the kettle. On the way to the shower, I submerge the brush in the scuttle bowl and let it warm up. During the shave, I refill the tank once or twice to continue keeping the brush warm.

Ah, all the delightful time spent on the world of traditional shaving. Love it.

    Regards,

    Obie

P.S. Your Gran was wise. My mama used to say that, too. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything."

I used to be a face latherer and then I switched to the bowl. An interesting development came along last week. I was loading my brush and zoning out thinking of something and rather than going to the bowl I face lathered.

Realizing what I had done I decided to go with it. So I loaded the brush a little more and leaving the face lathering on I bowl lathered for the second pass. Put the brush in the scuttle and did my first pass. I've started doing this procedure for the time being. I seem to like it and will continue with it as long as it is working.

I face lather with soaps and bowl lather with creams. I use a little ramiken from Target to whip up the cream. I never tried face-lathering with cream, though. For some reason the thought never crossed my mind. I'll give that a shot next time.

I usually run the brush under hot water, and then rigorously brush into my skin, lathering up with the residue of yesterday's shave. Then, I lather up in the bowl and apply the thick misture over it. This suits my weathered New England face, quite nicely.

    Default bowl or face

I am mainly a bowl latherer, I have a "red neck scuddle" where I mix my creams and glycerin. However, I have also tried lathering directly on my face when times-a-short in the morning. When face lathering I use a shubby 22mm boars bristle brush for faster lathering.
