Thanked: 0Rose
Trumper's Rose is one of my favorites, as well as a good Sandlewood! Rose reminds me of the Edwardian era, the Titanic, gold pocket watches, straight razors and when a man was a true gentleman.
I also have the Trumper's Almond and Coconut shaving creams which I place behind the Rose, and would probably not reorder once they're gone.
A good Sandlewood is also very hard to beat, and thus also has its place in my weekly line-up of shaving creams.
I wouldn't go as far as to encourage the boycott of any one product, as I think they're all good, it's just some have become more of a favorite than others.
There are far more nice creams and soaps out there to pick from than there are shaves in a weeks time!

Thumbs up Rick, The smell of roses on a man doesn't make you any less of a man. It does hit more on the gentlemans era of old. When your wife wakes up let her smell it, I bet she likes it, MINE DOES

Thanks to all for the positive comments- Rose was (and still is) to be my next cream.
For the record - I like the Saint Charles rose, think it's quite a nice smell. And am using Trumper's violet at the moment which is a nice scent but I don't really like it. But I do love the colour and the lather and the feel. It's a great quality cream.
Has anyone tried the coconut?I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Try the Trumpers Coconut, it may seem high, but it is worth every cent and then some.

Thanked: 431I got a sampler from them too, not sure if it had that in there, will have to look.
I do have a tub of the Taylor of Old Bond Street Rose though, to me it is not too strong and I do like it and it develops a very nice cream/lather, and according to TOBS it is their best selling cream in the U.K.

I agree! The coconut range of Trumpers products all smell great, and they lather really well. Definately worth the price.
I've yet to find a bad product at Trumpers, I must admit. And their service is always pretty good as well...! Their Spanish Leather cologne is great too.

Toplin,
As you've probably realized by now, scents are very individual things and just because you dislike something doesn't mean you need to make a post dissing it and certainly not calling for a boycott.
Yes, I read that you meant it as a joke. Unfortunately it read like a serious one. One great way to prevent such misunderstandings is re-read one's post and think how people might perceive it before posting.
Respectfully,
Ursus

The Trumper Rose SOAP is a clear favorite for me... The cream not so much but I do not use creams anymore. When I use it I imagine a Dandy or Rake such as Beau Brummel having gone down that same path with a quality rose scented soap, brush, and blade! 3 years ago I would never have considered using it at all.

+1 for that thought...Rose scented shaving creams are reminiscent of a bygone era--Beau Brummel, Adm. Horatio Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, etc. I suspect that rose and lavender scents are found in many English shaving products because of the English upper class's love for cultivating flower gardens of fragrant plant species as well as the fact that those plants provided the most readily available oils that could be used in England at that time to provide a pleasing fragrance for shaving soaps. Perhaps rose remains a popular scent in England today because it reminds them of a happier time--when the sun never set on the British Empire.
I have used the TOBS Rose shaving cream off and on for over a year. It is not my first choice of preferred shaving creams, but it is certainly among my top five. I like tradition..."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Well, I took it as sarcasm intended to get a rise, but it came across a little heavy maybe. I'm constantly re-reading my posts trying to make sure they say what I mean. A few times I didn't do this and people read things hiding between the lines that I didn't intend.
I have used the TOBS Rose cream and liked it. Like many of these products it seemed to improve as I got to know it better! Tabac was the same way. The longer I use it the more I like it.Last edited by matt321; 02-02-2010 at 04:47 PM.
