Thanked: 0What are my other options for Shave Cream?
Well I have been shaving for a month now using C.O Bigelow shave cream. What are some other shave creams that are as good or even better?

Thanked: 1903Under regular circumstances, I would advise you to simply order Shaving Soaps/Shaving Creams Reviews - Straight Razor Place Forums by rating. However, the quality of the reviews varies from well meaning to expert. Not the most helpful thing for someone in your position.
My personal list of favourites is Domenico Caraceni, Castle Forbes, Penhaligon's "Blenheim Bouquet". In that order, and keeping in mind that Caraceni and Penhaligon's are rather expensive. But, as I said, this list is highly personal. The big English brands should also perform well, and I have made good experiences with CarrieM's creams (even though they were still in beta testing phase when I tried them). Lots to choose from.

Proraso is still the best IMHO. The smell may put you off but it gives great shaves at a very reasonable price.

Thanked: 4942I compare every shave cream to Castle Forbes. For my money, it remains the best suds on the planet. There are a bunch of other nice creams out there. This is a really fun area to get to experiment with.

I like Proraso as well. I think the eucalyptus scent is nice, but different.
I use one shave cream from St. Charles Shave (Very V) that is very nice.
I mostly use shaving soap, and I very much enjoy the products from Mama Bear's Soaps. They're all hand-made and very reasonably priced. I also like dealing with Mama Bear's because the owner takes a personal interest. Sue Clark (owner) answers e-mail personally and is glad to give advice and make custom orders. She ships promptly. Her glycerin soaps are very good.
You can google St. Charles Shave and Mama Bear's Soap for their websites.

Thanked: 0I started out using the cheap Mart type mug shaving soap that comes in the Green box and it sucked big time, then I purchased some of the C.O.Bigelow which is sold at Bath & Body Works and it was Much better but I still found that I had to reapply it just to get a close shave, then I purchased some Proraso which comes in its own handy shaving cup from one of the on line vendors on here and I it was an improvement over the Bigelow, but now I have found the one that does the job on my tough beard and the name of it is Musgo Real and from my experience so far it's a keeper. I think your going to half to experiment and find the one that works the best for you, because what works for one might not work for another, I will tell you this though a good quality shaving soap or cream makes all the difference in order to get a good close comfortable shave no matter how good of a razor you use.

Thanked: 0I've used the C.O.Bigelow and the Proraso and they were alright but they just didn't give me a close shave, then someone recommended that I try Musgo Real and it does the job and gives me a close comfortable shave, I figure that any company thats been making a shaving soap for over 100 years must be doing something rite.

Thanked: 1903The same could be said about General Motors, so that argument is obviously moot. That said, it would be interesting to learn which other creams you have tried, because neither Proraso nor Musgo Real would appear anywhere near the top of my shopping list. Which does not mean that they are bad products, just that there are quite a few I find better (and I mean performance, not intangibles like scent).
Regards,
Robin
