Default Wilkinson sword, soap and brush,

Hi I`m new to all this but have been using a Wilkinson sword, soap and brush,
    for a while now.
I know they are probably not the greatest on the market, but are they terrible? i`ve been using them alongside my normal razor now for over a year.
and i was just wondering how superior some of the other soaps on the market are?
I`m just starting out so i don`t want to be purchasing some of the £50 soaps out there, so if any one can recomend a good quality soap for less than £15 i1`ll be a happy man

    BigIan,

Whatever floats your boat. Wilkinson Sword soap and brushes are not marketed widely here in the U. S. so I can't answer your quality question. In fact, I have only come across one U. S. vendor who sells Wilkinson Sword soap. None for their brushes. There may be a review of their soap in the SRP "Soaps and Creams" forum. Check there.

If they both work for you, however, I don't see why you shouldn't at least consider them adequate for your needs. There is no need to follow the herd here or anywhere else. Shaving and shaving equipment is a very personal preference.

    Happy shaving...

    Cheers jhenry,

I was just wondering if i was missing out on somthing as my soap only costs £6 from the local supermarket, and have herd no one mention it on here, perhaps all the other soaps out there are far superior. Being a yorkshire man i will be waiting for the soap i have to run out before purchasing any other soap

I have the cream...I actually really like it a lot...it creates a very slick and wet cream which suits me...also I think it smells great...and of course its cheap...

However, other creams from AOS / Truefitt / Trumpers / Taylor, I think are better...from the quality of ingredients, to overall performance...It is worth the money to buy when you feel like something more luxurious...

However, the best advice would be to contact one of the companies / a vendor and try some free samples of each and different scents...

Theshaveden.com even sells small samples for a few dollars each and they have over 50+ different creams / soaps to try...worth looking into...

My guess is that after a few samples - you will still use the Wilkinson because its great but prefer something else...

The only Wilkinson Sword shave soaps I've seen in supermarkets in SE England are aerosol shave foam or gel. They sell a Wilkinson Sword DE (double -edge) razor in the local Boots Chemist.
Very few High St shops in the UK sell anything but aerosols. Bigger Waitrose supermarkets keep some French shaving products but not a brand that is well known.
I tend to buy shaving soap mail order.

Maybe they think we can only just manage to press the top of an aerosol down here in the South East. Try this UK based supplier. I've not seen a hard cake Wilkinson soap for years.

The tallow-based Palmolive shave sticks that can be had for under £1 at the supermarkets over there are a great value for the money, too.

You can pick up the Palmolive cream, and the shave stick, in tesco. In my opinion better than the Wilkinson one.

Ingrams, in superdrug, is good as well. Menthol. I use that the majority of the time.
