Well - I went to a couple of pharmacies around here. Neither had it (they both had "Williams" cake soap). One had one lonesome Surry brush that said "Do Not Reorder" on the price tag where it sat on the shelf. So - no luck finding that soap yet for me!

I just want to add I did try their regular soap. Do not bother with it. Poor lather not worth using.

Thanked: 4I found the Surrey not quite up to the benchmark best buy soap - Williams.

Thanked: 15I like Williams myself. Cheep, good lather and I like the scent a lot. At .97c per cake, it's a great value.

surrey vs williams
Surrey wins hands down. Williams and Colgate both dry out before you get to the other side of your face. With Surrey you can take your time and it lasts until you are ready too shave. I get mine at RiteAid.

Alternatively, a drop of Skin Food on the soap can lead to a nice lather. And, it's been mentioned on the boards, you can put some palmolive cream on the soap for a good lather, too. And a very cheap price.

Of the cheap, basic soap Surrey is my favorite, hands down, Williams was okay, Marvey works about the same but I like the scent better. Kind of spicey.
I usually include either Williams or Marvey in my kits. I have not seen Marvey in stores as itis usually only distributed by the maker to barber shops, salons (and me <g>).
I think all of the cake soaps are rendered good or bad by very slight cahnges in water, air and vigor in whipping up the lather. A little too much or too little of those and you get anything from a great to a nothing lather. The cream soaps have much more leeway in lathering I think.

Thanked: 0I get a very good lather from Burma Shave soap. It's equal to the lather I get from the classic shaving soaps. It's unscented and builds into a rich lather that doesn't dry out. I ran across it a couple of years ago in the Brooks Pharmacy chain and lately Big Y supermarkets have begun to carry it in my area. (When I first discovered it, I bought a half a dozen bars just in case it was suddenly pulled from the shelves or discontinued.)
