Default Tried new soap tonight. WOW!

I was at the grocery store today and happened to walk down the isle that had the shaving products. So I looked to see what they had. To my amazement there before my eyes was Surrey Glycerine Shave Cakes. I might have had one more shave in my mug if I was luckey and my order from Classic' hasn't gotten here yet so I bought one. It was $1.87. I felt like a kid at Christmas. As soon as the kids were asleep I jumped in the shower and started my prep routine. Shower soaking my face in the hot stream frequently, keeping my face wet with hot water while I dry off, lather, strop, lather again and shave. The soap lathered VERY quickly (better than the Marvey's I had been using) and man there was a lot of it! LATHER FOR DAYS!! The smell was very pleasant. I proceeded with a typical 3-pass shave. I used my 6/8 Streiht. I had the absolute best shave I have had to date. Although I did have some nicks and burn (not very bad) it was amazingly smooth and close. Even my trouble spots came out better than they ever have. I attribute the nicks and burn to the less than ideal edge on the razor. I need to put it on the hone. I'm going to try it with my 5/8 Dovo next time. If you haven't tried these products yet you REALLY need to. I know I will be trying all of them. A Badger brush for $20! There's not a whole lot of info on their website but it's worth checking out. It lists their products and has a link to download an order form. I guess that's enough to get the job done. http://www.vdhent.com/mensline.php

Louis - what grocery store were you in? I would like to try this soap but don't feel like buying 10 of them. (Quick look at their order form looks like they're sold in groups of 10 for $20).

    Thanks,

    Tim

A $20.00 badger brush seems a little too good to be true. Please let us know if they are quality brushes or not. I think most of us have tried brushes that were a "great value" only to have brush hairs falling out all over the place.

Surrey soap is probably (IMHO) the best bang for the buck out there. Great lather, pleasent scent, and DIRT CHEAP. I've found it at both Walgreens and CVS for $1.67. My first brush was a Surrey bristle, <$7.00; I've not seen their badger but if the quality approaches any of their other products, I'd say you're safe with that purchase.

I've since gone the expensive route, top shelf creams, expensive brushes (thanks ThreePutt ), and too many razors. However, Surrey products are good and do everything you could ask for from a soap and brush. Definitely the best way to go on the cheap.

The first brush and soap I bought was from them. The brush was the boar bristle one, which I now use by pulling hairs out with pliers to do the hanging hair test. That was about all it was good for. I didn't think too much of the soap but I didn't get Glycerine version. I will have to look for it and give it a try.

I has at HEB. I have also seen it at Walgreens and CVS. I can't remember if Kroger has it or not. I'm going to email them and see if it's possible to mix-and-match soaps when ordering from them. 2 cakes of each would be a lot better than 10 cakes of one kind.

Glycerine soaps are da bomb. *sage nod*

I'm pretty sure I've seen this around. I'll have to pick up a cake now. Not that I'm in any danger of running out of shaving cream before the heat death of the universe...

HEB is a great store - my wife is from Laredo and we always make a trip to one of the three when we're down there. I'll check at the CVS stores in my area. Thanks for the info.

    Default Thanks for the tip

    Thanks for the tip, guys.

I stopped by the local Walgreens last night on the way home form the library and picked up a cake of the Surrey. Looks like Jello. Smells like stale Kool-Aid. Lathers well. Very slippery. Rinses easily with no irritation.

    I like it.
