The fit is actually perfect - if you use it every day it will absorb water from the brush and in a few weeks will expand to fill the bowl exactly. The reason the other english soaps appear to fit their bowl better when fresh is because of their rounded bottom the soap shifts upwards as it expands; the flat-bottomed MWF soap can only expand sideways and if it "fit" the dish when fresh it might break the dish as it expanded in use.

I basically grated the MWF into the ceramic dish, and its perfect now.

If you bought the MWF puck only less the holder and you are not concerned with visual effect a 5 oz. tuna can, well washed to kill the smell, makes a perfect size holder.
