MWF Jar
Hello all:
I have a question, I just recently purchased some MWF with jar, but the fit is terrible. Do most people just leave it sloppy or do they grate it and than use. The fit of most other soaps with jar are good, am I missing something?

PS. Great soap as you all well know.

I think you mean it's loose, and spins around when you try to build lather?
I put mine in a Ramakin, ( a little desert bowl) type deal. May have spelled it wrong, Anyway, I did not melt it. Eventually, the water and soap mix will adhere to the vessel, and it'll stick. Not sure about melting it, I've melted Colleen's soap before in the microwave, 50% power I think, and watched it...I did it with Ogalla too, worked great...Just make sure you don't cook it, just heat it enough to melt it....As I said, I've never done it with MWF....We have assumed control !

As you use it the water residue will have it sticking. Just give it a couple of uses and it will be fine. It never will spread out to fill the jar but it will stick sooner than later.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks for the quick post.
Yes I have used it for a few weeks and it has not moved after the second use. I just though it would have a nice fit, like most of the other soaps is all I was getting at. All in all great soap, but I was thinking as much as you pay for the soap, I would of given the jar a better fit.

It will glue itself in place.... not to worry.
For the non spinners in the world Tabac has little
fins in the jar that mate with groves in the puck
so it does not spin.
And for the true retentive types you can melt
an eighth of an inch of a glycerin based shave soap
on the bottom of a mug and then push a non
melting hard soap into it.

There's always graters for those who are bothered by the fact they're not tighter fit. I would be more bothered if the puck would not fit the dish. Lather and let lather, friend.
As you noticed, the puck will stick. Also with constant use without incessant drying, the puck will expand to fill out the dish nicely.
Haven't tried, but IIRC milled tallows won't melt well.

Try this quick fix. Run the hot water from the tap. When hot reduce the flow, and run the bottom of the cake of soap under the slow stream of hot water until the bottom of the cake of soap is soft. Than press the cake of soap into the dry jar, keep pressing and use even preasure with both hands, or about a minute or so longer. Let dry a couple of hours before using, or overnight is even better. Sliding around soap is solved. I hope this works for you cromagnum.

Thanked: 346The fit is actually perfect - if you use it every day it will absorb water from the brush and in a few weeks will expand to fill the bowl exactly. The reason the other english soaps appear to fit their bowl better when fresh is because of their rounded bottom the soap shifts upwards as it expands; the flat-bottomed MWF soap can only expand sideways and if it "fit" the dish when fresh it might break the dish as it expanded in use.

I basically grated the MWF into the ceramic dish, and its perfect now.

Mama Bear's sells her empty shaving containers and I use one for MWF.
She sells wood ones too but I like the plastic ones because they seal.
