    Thumbs down Williams Soap

I stopped in the Shaving section of a Pharmacy on my travels just to see what was there. All they had was a boar bristle brush for $8.99, Wilkinson Sword soap in a well sealed wooden bowl, and a boxed bar of Williams soap. I couldn't smell the Wilkinson Sword soap and still had the recent memory of smelling the Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna heavenly aroma when I had just managed to get the box open and my nose in it. Dear gods what a stench. The only people I can imagine wanting to use this are obsessive compulsives who really NEED to smell like they're usin lye to shave with. Truly offensive aroma to me. I recommend stearing well clear of this soap. I suspect it would be more pleasurable to use hot water alone. Please tell me nobody here likes that stuff ... please?

    XMan,

I happen to like Williams. Of course by this point
you may have determined that I'm a little odd.
But the stuff works for me. Make a great lather
and gives me an excellent shave.

I like the Williams, too. Lovely lemon verbena scent. I don't know what you was smelling, my man. It won't hang with my CS Sandalwood or L'Occitane soap (that's the best hard soap lather EVER), but it doesn't smell bad (to me).

I've used williams for years (and only williams, I'm just now starting to branch out because of YOU guys). I'm not sure what the heck you smelled but it's not the stuff I use every day.

Williams is a good soap for the price. I started with Williams, and have turned two friends on to soap & a brush versus the can, and both are really enjoying it. I picked up some Proraso soap from Target (thanks to the thread here) and have recommended it to them as well. I usually burn a cake of Williams every now and then for a break from creams. I'm working on a tub of Taylor's sandalwood now, and it's very nice. The scent isn't as good as the Vulfix sandalwood though.

    X,

I don't doubt what you saw and smelled, but it makes no sense. I even will use Williams to shower with from time to time. Next time you visit the store again, take another look.

Wow, I sure will double check to make sure I know what I'm talking about here.
Maybe it's just my delicate nose.

I have a Williams as part of my soap rotation, but I'm not very fond of the smell. It really reminds me of a citronella candle. It does make some nice lather, but there are a couple of lady's here named Sue that make a nicer lathering soap! I think I keep using it because, like straight razor shaving, it is nostalgic.

Double checked. Yep, that's the stuff, with the grotesque citronella assault on my nose. Don't know how you guys do it. To each his own I guess.
