Hello, Ryan:
Yes, the soap is reasonable for the quality it offers. The shipping is the killer, yes. I've sent you a p.m. on the prices.
Regards,
Obie

Really, when you meet that circumstance the painful truth is you need to make a big order to make the shipping costs more reasonable. If I made my order any larger instead of being flogged by my wife I'd be Pumaized.

My dear thebigspendur:
Keep lying to your wife about the importance of Martin de Candre in your life.
I asked dearly beloved if she would like me to buy her a bottle of cognac. "Oh, absolutely," she said. "I mean how could I live without my cognac?"
Wise guy — she doesn't drink.
Then she said, "Get one for yourself," and gave me her signature smile that says, "How many bottles of cognac have bought for myself?"
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 4942I received my jar yesterday and used it today.
WOWZA!! Interesting menthol scent, but light. The suds were Vunderbar!! The lather was much like Caraceni and CF to me and the cushion was excellent. Can't believe it's a soap and can't wait to use it a few more times. For as little as it took, I would think the jar will last a really long time too.
Definitely a soap to recommend and it deserves the praise it has been given.
Thanks guys for the responses in this thread as they really made me want to try this soap.
Have fun,
Lynn

My plan to become the ultimate enabler seems to be working. Even the mighty Lynn has fallen prey to my machinations...
He saw a lawyer killing a viper on a dunghill hard by his own stable; And the Devil smiled, for it put him in mind of Cain and his brother Abel.

Thanked: 1936Ok, I said I would get back to you after I shaved with this soap...and here it is:
My everday soap is Proraso Eucalyptus, it works best with my pocketbook and water. I have several tubs in standby actually. My Martin de Candre (MdC) came in a 7.5"x8.5"x12" box with paper tape on all the opening edges & had "fragile" tape centered on all six sides. I opened it at the workbench as soon as the wife came bearing "gifts" from the post office. As soon as I opened it, i was hit with a very unique smell that actually had a slight touch of rose. Worried (I am not a fan of rose as it's overpowering) I start digging thru the peanuts, making a mess of things. To my surprise I find a sampler of shampoo and a bar of soap with the box containing the shave soap. The shave soap didn't have that rose smell, nor did the shampoo or bar of soap...I just don't know where came from. Maybe there is a touch of rose in the mix...
The shave
I didn't have really enough whiskers to shave with, so had to wait. It was worth it! I had just honed up three razors, one of which is my favorite manufacturer and I was anxious to give it a dance as well. Man, this stuff really explodes lather on a brush. I use a Becker scuttle and loaded up the brush while whipping up the lather in the scuttle. After whipping a nice thick lather, I lather up well and shave with two passes (wtg & atg) & touch-ups.
Overall opinion of MdC: This stuff has a great smell, whips up a lather like no tomorrow, provides excellent coushion & lubrication. My only complaint is that it seemed to start to dry out before I got to the other side of my face. Keep in mind that it's starting to warm up here and I am running air conditioning. I imagine when I learn the right water to soap mixture that will not be an issue. Am I glad I tried this soap for the price? I can answer that after only one shave....YES.
Thanks Obie for the heads up on something new and worthwhile.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott
