Default Who Says Williams Won't Lather!?

It had been quite a while since I played with Williams, the true, no kidding, old school American soap. So I decided to swing by the store and picked up a puck for $1.60. When I got home, I took out my cheese grater, grated the entire puck, and pressed the shavings into a small metal bowl. Now, once you do this, some water and smoothing is required on the shavings so I figured what better way to accomplish this than to do a bit of a trial lather. I ran hot water over the soap and put my brush in the bowl on top of the soap to soak. After a couple minutes I emptied out the water, shook the brush once or twice and commenced to swirl. I'm not sure if shredding (and the resulting larger surface area) was a factor or not but a couple minutes later the lather exploded. Recon photos for your viewing pleasure (lather porn )

Gentlemen, I give you my word that this is NOT super lather and there was absolutely nothing added to this. It's just straight up Williams, water and an Omega Boar brush. Cool huh?

    1OldGI,

Ooh la la! That lather makes me tingle all over.

I may not be able to define lather, but I know it when I see it.

I've always found Williams lathers wonderfully, for me it just dries too fast.

looks like great, thick lather. but how long did it stay hydrated? that's my major problem with williams.

    Hello,

Yeah, Thats what i've been using, tried three others(all as economical) but i must say i like this Williams soap the best, i left it as the puck and put it a cup. I compared it to Wilkinson Sword 5$ soap, although the williams doesn't smell so good i like the lather better.

Yeah, I've experienced that myself occassionally with Williams. Tomorrow morning, I'll be OPS checking this lather, I think the trick is to use about 5 times as much water as you would with any other soap. Maybe if applied to a greased and wet face, it will have a bit more linger time. We'll see tomorrow.

Yes, I agree it dries too fast. I make it better by squirting a little bit of Edge shaving gel into the lather. That makes it last much longer and gives a nice smooth shave.
