    Default AOS lavender cream

drove down to the bottom of miami today and went to the art of shaving store in the dadeland mall..... i bought a $23 jar of the lavender scented shaving cream.......

i dunno... i really don't see where it is any better than the 1.50$ puck of williams that i have been using *(with a liberal dollop of glycerin added).......

someone tell me was i expecting too much??

i used my normal mineral oil rub to my face *(wife is a massage therapist and does a wonderful job of this)....

then hot water and a drop of the cream on my ole brush.... lathered up and then used my freshly restored wade and butcher to remove the stubble from my face.....

same way i always do.... only change was this *(really expensive) cream.....

    any suggestions??

    signed....

    disappointed in south florida....

I was never really blown away by AOS Shaving Cream, but that's me. I have Lavendar, Sandalwood, and Rose. I mix mine up in a scuttle prior to use, and they do OK, not the best, but not the worst either. I admit, they pretty much go unused. I have way too many soaps and creams that just out perform them. It seems most guys that use Williams or Van der Hagen are loyal to it; However, adding Glycerin to the Williams isn't really a fair comparion.

Try mixing up some Williams in a bowl or scuttle, and adding some AOS Cream with a shot of Glycerin.

Keep experimenting, it sounds like you haven't hit the "sweet spot" yet. No two soaps or creams are alike, and you need to work out the kinks to enjoy the full benefit of a product. When I get a new soap/cream I will shave with it for at least a week straight, a "get-to-know-you" period. Once I'm satisfied that I have it nailed down I move on to the next one in my rotation.

That being said, I've never used AOS creams, so I can't say whether they're good or bad but word is generally positive. I do have DR Harris Lavendar, which I shaved with today, and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it destroys Williams or VDH.

Well, on the other hand if you give it a good shot and it's just not working out for you there's always the classifieds, I'm sure someone would want it.

I used AOS Sandlewood for the first time this morning. The wife bought it for me. Yeah, it's pricey (22 USD + shipping), but for me and IMHO, it was money well spent. I came away with a great shave. One thing I did do was that I did not apply my pre-shave oil because I wanted to see how the cream faired without a helper. The shave went very well, great lubrication and cushion. My face was well moisturized, one of the things I look for in a product.

For me, again MHO, my tub of AOS is a keeper. The wife liked the results too. I told her that I would like to have a tub of the Lavender. I also have C. O. Bigelow shave cream (made by Proraso) and Cella, I will not make any comparisons with them against AOS because I like them all and their little nuances. Thus far, I have a cream rotation that is serving me well and I will add more to the line up.

Ryan82 is correct, no two soaps or creams are alike and you got to keep experimenting.

Nevertheless my friends, I look forward to each shaving session because of the excellent products and razors I have acquired.

    Happy shaves to all!
    Patrick
