I have noticed I get rash/razor burn on my neck and under chin whenever I uber-lather with glycerin. Is this possibly an effect of glycerine? Maybe I need to add more water? Typically I use 3 drops and a tablespoon or two of water and a fingernail of cream and a few seconds swirl of soap... I have also noticed with uber-lather that the lather seems to glop around instead of spreading smoothly and really staying on the face and has a tendency to wad up and drop off. At least for me I am finding a quality soap or cream alone beats an uber-lather. It almost seems like a characteristic of a quality soap is in it's ability to hang on.

Possible -- yes, but I have no way to tell from here.
You can try a drop under a small bandage on
the inside of your arm... if it raises a rash (minutes, hours)
    it is not for you.

When evaluating a new razor, soap, whatever try the three day rule.
What ever you do new, do it for three days in a row.

For me the value of a product is clear
    after a couple days.

    ===Three Day Rule===

    Edit:
But we should not hijack a thread
and change the subject in the middle...

I've been using their aftershave which I really like but it's not cheap! Also just ordered some Musgo Real Classic Shaving Cream which I can't wait to try from classicshaving.com. Any other suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

There's a ton of soaps/creams that have a following here:

Shave Cream: Castle Forbes, Truefitt and Hill, Trumper's, Taylor of old Bond St. (love the 1805) AOS, Domenico Caraceni, Nancy Boy, to name a few.

Soaps, Tabac, Mitchells Wool Fat, Straight Razor Designs Soaps, Mama Bears, L'Occtaine, Martin De Candre, Penhaligons, etc...

I have AOS pre shave oil in sandalwood, and I also have their Shave creams in Sandalwood, Lavendar, and Rose absolut. Good stuff, A tub will last you forever.

P.S. Try Mitchells Wool Fat w a dollop of Musgo real and 5 drops of glycerin. Glen calls is "lanolin overload". Good stuff...

A couple of weeks ago I was at a high-end mall and got three tubes of shaving cream: AOS sandlewood, l'Occitane Cade, and Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad. By volume, I think they probably cost about the same. That is, they were more or less equally expensive. I think the AOS gives a slightly better shave than the other two, but doesn't smell as interesting.

Actually, the best shave soap I've used was made by a member here; his business is called Bairlea Farms. It's nectarine scented and because it's so gentle it's my go-to for hot weather. I've got a puck of melon/cucumber scented soap from the same place, but the scenting was too strong for me. If you don't mind that aspect, PM me and I'll send it to you to try.

    Best wishes!

Thanks for the tips. I've been thinking of trying L'Occitaine next as I generally like their products. Will check out Bairlea Farms. First time hearing of them

My wife bought me a tub of AOS Sandlewood cream and I tried it this morning. I like it a lot. In fact, I decided not to use my pre-shave oil just to see how the AOS would pan out. Great lubrication and cushion, and a very consistant lather.

So AOS is now in my cream line up. I told my wife that I would like to have a tub of the AOS Lavender for Christmas.

My lineup consists of Bigelow (made by Proraso), Cella, and now AOS. I have discovered the creams work better for me; they don't dry out my skin like some soaps do.

We've got an AOS and L'Occitaine in the local mall across from each other. I picked up AOS lavender soap and Cade soap.

AOS is expensive! The soap refill was $26. Cade soap was $10. AOS had ONE mug, $85. Their straights were priced average, and are made by Dovo and TI.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

I've use the sandawood range; cream, balm and EdT. All smell wonderfull same. It's the best sandalwood I have ever used. Lemon range is soft, but pure lemon scent. The cream works fine. Better whit a straight razor than DE razor. The price... it's necessary to search for the offer.

I bought the sandalwood "kit" and I have to attest that I too found it a bit expensive. After using it for a couple of months now though, I realize that this is a quality product and a little goes a long way. I think this kit is going to last me the better part of a year! So I am not as concerned about the price now as I was. Plus I like that all three components complement each other so well, and doubt that I will ever buy an aftershave that isn't paired to a soap/cream again.

Unfortunately I get bored easy and want/need to add to my rotation which I figure is a good thing - but may get flack as my wife just LOVES this AOS stuff! On line shopping for me is the only way to go, and I have had great luck with The Superior Shave for both razors and product: The Superior Shave

    Good Luck.
