My TOBS melted in the mail.
I swear I have seen a thread about something like this before but my tapatalk-fu isn't bringing much up right now...
I had an amazon gift card and used a bit in some TOBS Sandalwood.
I got home from work and there was a package in the mail. It was my new cream! I opened it up for a smell and it was a puddle. I'm thinking if I let it firm up again it should be ok. Am I right in this? Or is it done for?

I had one that melted during shipping and then solidified into a perfectly flat surface, with sort of the consistency of one of the softer 'soaps'. Still worked perfectly fine.

I found that other thread because I'd posted in that one, too.

Thanks! I knew I wasn't as crazy as some might say. I stirred it a couple times as it cooled down and now, 4 hours later, it looks good. I'm going to give it a whirl tonight.
It was roughly 95 today and the mail usually comes at 1pm and I got home at 4.30p. And it was a black mailbox. I should have grabbed my IR thermometer to see the exact temp. On the upside, my new watch strap was fineLast edited by bharner; 08-19-2011 at 12:48 AM.

I've melted lots of soaps in the microwave so I can fit them in my various mugs, and I've never had a problem with performance or a significant change in consistency. Although, I've never done it with a cream...

Ok, so it most definitely was not hurt by having melted. I stuck it in the fridge for 15 minutes then stirred it up and let it sit and stirred it every 30 minutes till it formed up (hourish). I've been meaning to try it out but my Crohn's has been acting up and I've been afraid to roll strop for fear that the pain mess will make me sloppy and cause me to roll my edge.
I still feel like crap but I decided to man up and break out my shavette with a Wilkinson Sword blade in it.
I soaked my Frank Shaving Best Boar brush for 5 minutes in cold water. Then I let water drip out and gave it two good shakes.
I've never used ToBS before. My other known creams are Proraso, Palmolive (which, until you spend 2-3x the price, can't be beat), and Al's Bomb. The proraso is ok, the palmolive is great and the bomb is amazing but it doesn't much like my hard water so I have to play with it every time I shave.
I swirled my damp brush in the TOBS for 5-10 seconds to load the tips up. I ended up with enough lather to give my face and my wife's legs 3 pass shaves.
This stuff is phenomenal, I highly recommend it if you've never tried it. I had an amazon gift card and I think it was $12 and change plus it had super saver shipping.
Tons of cushion and glide and my face feels ridiculously soft and smooth. I feel like I've been treated to a shave fit for a king. Not to mention that the sandalwood has a classic masculine scent. I finished with my usual cold water rinse, a quick splash of Thayer's cucumber witch hazel and then a splash of Pinaud Clubman AS. I figured it was as classic an AS scent a fellow can find. The two compliment each other quite nicely. I'm ready to put on a formal suit along with my top hat & monacle, and have Jeeves bring the car around so I can go to the opera.
