Both used with a brush to create lots of nice lather. Shaving cream is easier to use mostly though, but you are missing out dismissing soaps!
Are you telling me ShaveCream is soap :?:

I thought there was a clear distinction between ShaveCream and shave soap !?!

I know ShaveCream has a little bit if glycerin in it to make the razor glide better, but thought actual shaving soap had far more similarities with regular soap than ShaveCream has...... I live & learn each day of my life, I guess

    Good price too.
If you only try one soap, get an SRD soap.
Sorry for my obvious ignorance but what is SRD, what does it stand for :?:

Straight Razor Designs, it's owned by Lynn Abrams, Honemeister and SRP Founder. It's a great online store for wet shaving, mostly straight razor shaving.

That so-called "cheap" Tabac is one of the top shave soaps produced and I would not dismiss it so fast. Pre de Provence is also good. What's more, the soap you use in the shower is not the same as a quality shave soap such as, say, Martin de Candre, Provence Sante, Mitchell's Wool Fat, among others. There's a little more to a shave soap than that.

To enjoy the full flavor of wet shaving, I suggest giving quality soaps a chance, too, because they could surprise you. Dismissing them outright, as you do, is a missed opportunity.

Yeah, and for a SPECIAL treat use the same shave cream you're going to shave with as a shampoo! It's amazing! Speick and Musgo Real are really nice for this... (weird, I know...)

Carl - that is WEIRD (adding cream to your shampoo), but I like it!! Going to give it a try and let the wife decide!

As for the OP - I am especially proud of myself as I like to go a bit overboard and buy all sorts of stuff when I get into something as well but … I showed restraint this time and went out and got a whole bunch of samples instead! Rather glad I did too as some of these scents just “aren’t for me.”

Moreover, what really sucks is – I still prefer the original one I got into it all with!! The Art of Shaving Sandalwood! Guess I’ll just go ahead and try their Jells, soaps, and what have you too!

That's all to say I understand but there are other alternatives.
