Is it me or the soap?
I've just recently purchased my first brush and soap. A kingsley badger along with casswell massey almond soap. I thought I did really well building my first few batches of lather however when it came to actually using it I'm finding the lather is drying up or practically disappearing before I can even finish applying it. I try adding more water in small amounts but it seems to just be counter productive and kill my lather. I haven't found any reviews on this particular soap so I'm wondering if anyone else has used it and can tell me whether it's my rookie abilities or did I just waste my money on a subpar product.

Thanked: 993here's what I'd do:
go out and buy another soap....doesn't need to be expensive....maybe Proraso for $8 or something.
Build a lather with it and see how you do.....compare and contrast your lathers and then you'll determine if your ability has anything to do with the former soap.

Good idea, unfortunately my local selection is limited to AOS our jack black products. I have heard decent feedback on the AOS and not so good on the jack black. I paid the same amount for the casswell massey as was the price for the AOS so I assumed I was getting a decent product. The only reason I opted for the CM wa I liked the scent compared to the AOS scents.

Thanked: 1195I've never used CM, but the reviews I've read have come to the concensus that it's absolute shite. In this case I would say it's the soap, not you.
I take it that for now you'd like to keep it somewhat cheap? Do you have a Wal Mart (or equivalent) where you live? If so they will more likely than not sell Proraso (also rebranded as C.O. Bigelow), which I would highly recommend over Van der Hagen or Williams. It is one of the easiest soaps to lather and is a quality product. That way you can at least eliminate one variable...

Yeah I actually just found some reviews after doing a search. Initially I had just checked under the product reviews and didn't find anything. But you are right everything I've found pretty much points to this being crap.
Price isn't really a factor as much as availability at this point considering I just paid $25 for the CM. I was hoping to find something I could just pick up at a store, it's the instant satisfaction
factor I guess. However seeing how this ended up I guess waiting a few days for delivery won't hurt.

Tell you what, seriously, get a hold of Mastershake/Scott on here by PM and ask him to sell you a puck of his Bald Frog Soap. VERY VERY good product. I will be doing a review on here soon. I'm serious, it's as good as MWF! Good price too, plus the satisfaction of seeing a fellow forum-ite start his business.
