Thanked: 20Grating Mitchell's Wool Fat
Gentlemen-
Can Mitchell's Woll Fat soap be grated and pressed into a container, or should it be left alone and used as-is? Will the lanolin gum up the blades in a handle turned cheese grater, making the process difficult at best?
thanks, Gags

I've grated up MWF soap and pressed it into a mug before - it worked just fine. I know other people do it as well, it makes it a bit easier to lather. It did gum up the grater though, so I wouldn't recommend one that has a rotating handle. Try one with a flat grating surface instead.

When I have grated soaps in the past, I used a hand held grater. Not the fastest or easiest, but you only need to grate off enough to line the bottom and sides, and then you can just drop the rest of the puck in and press it all together.

You can use a cheese grater too. Milling the soaps is a great way to get it mellow and enhance the properties a little too as it will open up the middle to finish the curing process to rid itself of the moisture there.

Hi Glen
I like the simplistic approach to use what you have available
Which leads to this thought along these same lines
It would seem that using a Steak Knife (serrated edges)
would certainly whittle away at the soap
and provide some fine shavings for initial moulding
into the container of your choice
Just my 2 cents worth

I used a cheese grater on a bar of MWF soap at first to try it. It worked just as well as the traditional shave soap.
We have assumed control !

I grated the whole puck and pressed it into a mug. Spectacular results and lather.
