Default A visit to Mama Bear Soaps

After looking over the Mama Bear website a few times I noticed a line about, "The woods of Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula." Well, we have a hunting cabin in the U.P. (upper peninsula) not far from Wisconsin, so I find out the address and check out the map and indeed not far at all. Although it is 9-10 hours away from home, it was only 40 minutes from the hunting cabin - a visit was in order. A few emails and I had an appointment! Sue was very helpful and hospitable as I sniffed my way through a hundred or more scents. I ended up buying one tub of Acorns and Oak Leaves along with a bunch of samples. Lathering up a sample the next day was blissful - a wonderful strong aroma, super glide, and the whiskers melted away. I then tried my tub of Acorns and Oak Leaves a couple of days later and had a smooth shave as well. I liked the soaps well enough that I trekked 40 minutes back to Mama Bear Soaps and bought another tub, this time Autumn Afternoon. It was great experience to be able to do the sniff tests to find out which I would like, while narrowing down others that were not as pleasing as one might think. The time spent there was informational in seeing the tools used to make a favorite shaving soap as well as the packaging and shipping process. It is also a good feeling to get to know and support local artisans. Shave well gentlemen and ladies and I might be getting some reviews up soon.

    Gentlemen,
Mama Bear soaps are excellent and soap mistress Sue Clark a grand lady. Coachschaller, a worthy trip, indeed.

Indeed, a worthy trip. As I look at some of the reviews and think, "hmmm, I would like to try that scent," I remember that I did smell it and it was not to my liking - or I picked up a sample. As a spendthrift, I may have saved myself significant coin, while enjoying the value of that which I obtained.

Ummmm... [looks around guiltily] yeah.. that's a feature...

Now, hold on, there. I've earned it. I have "Dragon's Blood" and my skin doesn't react to it, I'm just having fun. I love my MB soaps.

I'm a lover of mama bear as well. Currently using dragon's blood and love it. I'm thinking about getting a scent for the holidays.
I'm a sucker for a stamped tail. Giggity.

You can't go wrong with Mama Bears. My faves are Backyard Gazebo & Dragon's blood.

It was tough, but I had a budget before going in.... I bought one tub and 10-20 samples the first visit. I then needed to go back later to pick up another tub. I now have a puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat and two tubs of Mama Bear's a bunch of samples, and a little bit left of my first soap puck, Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn. My nose is in heaven!

I have several of Sue's soaps. They've been a favorite of mine for some time now. Great performers. I've been pretty lucky picking scents I like, Sandalwood Vanilla and Amber Romance to name a few.
    We have assumed control !
