So with your reviews and other user's reviews on SRP, I've decided to go with a DR Harris soap and mug. I was considering getting a shave brush as well, but reading the reviews didn't help much there. What are some of your favorites?

    Good choice.

Out of DR Harris' selection I've only sampled thier Lavendar, Almond and Arlington. First off, the lathering abilities of all varieties are excellent. The Lavendar is awesome, but it is a touch on the floral side. It's a favorite in the wetshaving community, but some men used to "manly" products might not appreciate it. The almond is nice and smells like, well, almonds . The Arlington is very much citrus based with a hint of spice.

If your BF hasn't given you any clues to what scents he appreciates I'd suggest going through his personal effects - colognes, aftershaves, shaving supplies - that should give you a good idea what he likes.

What a lucky guy... my bday is March 3rd and I won't get anything. LOL
I'm of no use when it comes to suggesting brushes, but I would love to have a Shavemac or Simpson. If I were to get either I would be very happy.

Wait a second... What are you really up to? Is he mad at you or something? I know when I'm in trouble, I'm out buying flowers or jewelry. When I'm really in the deep end, I find myself at Victoria's Secret helping/watching her pick out expensive underware... By far the worst is shopping for jeans, 2 hours of trying this and that only to walk to another store to continue the lesson.

Sorry, went off a bit there...
I'm sure someone can offer a specific brush make & model for you. I only know what I would like to have, just no experience with the products.
    Good luck.

Ryan, believe it or not, he is actually fond of the lavender. When he was making his own soap scents that is one he went for. He also made a soap with sandalwood. Almond sounds nice, maybe I'll pick that up too!

Johnny - Haha, he's not mad at me. Not that I know of anyway. I just know this is a fail-safe birthday gift idea. It was shaving supplies or a guitar. Seeing as how my money tree is a little sparse this time of year, I figured shave supplies were a good bet. I was looking at Simpson brushes. Anything has to be better than the thing he has now. I was going to get a brush stand but he Macguyver'd (Or Colonel O'Neill'd it, if you prefer the Stargate Richard Dean Anderson) one with a toothbrush stand that actually doesn't look half bad!

Psst- I drag him to Victoria's Secret too. Sometimes I even let him pick things out! (For me, of course) I pay, he picks. Not too shabby.

I will be sure to post the results after his birthday this Thursday.

I am not much in the way of gifts so I was trying to throw her off...she is a stealthy one. Thank You all for helping her out. They Soap D.R. Harris is great. I truly enjoyed my first shave with it this evening. I enjoy the soap, and it is a much better and more comfortable shave than the VDH. The after Shave is nice much stronger than I expected (the look on her face shown it was much stronger than she expected too.) I might try the Col. Conks that came with the mug in a few days. I am certainly a lucky guy. Thank you again.

I'm not as stealthy as I thought, since he found me out. Whoops.

Honestly, don't get your hopes up. Comparing DR Harris to Col. Conk is like comparing a Corvette to a Chevette - I'm sure you can figure out which one is which
