Thanked: 74I think I could be persuaded into this group buy. People seem to really like this particular soap. How does this particular soap compare in performance with other high-end soaps and creams, such as MdC, Castle Forbes, Xpec, the Three T's, and others? What makes the vintage stuff better than the new production essential oils? Thanks for any help.
I did a quick Google search and found a website that sells the Bulgarian Rose Otto essential oil. That stuff is expensive for sure - about $1000 for a typical aftershave-sized volume.

I'm definitely in for at least one and depending on the price maybe more, soap is one of my favorite parts of shaving, I really hope this goes through since I somehow missed the last one

Good questions, I'll try my best to answer.
Bulgarian Rose Otto is the most expensive EO's out there. It's sort of rare, and sold just like Vintage Champagne, or wine, stuff like that. They're quite unique, with variances from batch to batch. I once saw a wax sealed flask of B.Rose Otto oil on Ebay for $100,000. I believe it was from the 1920's. The actual oil used has a big impact on the final product, and Don at SRD must have a good source. I've tried some available on the internet and nothing comes close. The oil itself also adds something in the lathering dept. It just seems to produce more light fluffy lather than any other glycerin soap I've come across. It has everything you want in a top quality soap, Cushion, Glide, Loads of lather, and Mosisturizing qualities.
I have 6 of SRD's soaps. SRD's soaps are really top notch. Their Sandalwood shave soap is great stuff. Actually, it doesn't matter which you get, they're all good. I also have all the soaps/creams you mentioned. The Rose Otto is simply the best in my opinion. The oil they used last time was phenomenol. I'd find myself just opening the tub to smell it.
Rose Otto is not your typical run of the mill Rose Scent. As a matter of fact, it smells nothing like fresh cut roses. It has a smell all it's own. Very intoxicating. Maybe someone else who has some can add to this.
Happy Shaving....

Does the scent or some other property change with age as alcohols do? I don't know if light and fluffy sounds good...All the top performers I have (MDC, Scottish fine soaps, CF, institute karite, etc) all end up with a thick, dense, creamy lather that is very slick, too airy and i get no cushion. I am still in for two tubs tho cuz everyone seems to love this stuff and I like the idea that its limited production and rare...cuz thats just cool.
