Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad
I've been using Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad shave soap for a few years now and have no problem with it, in fact I rather like it. Of course that's about all that I've used with the exception of Old Spice soap that my Dad got me started on. I've recently heard that their soap is subpar, anyone have any insight on that? Since I've only used two actual soaps I'm probably a poor judge of quality. I recently tried Art of Shavings soap/lather, not sure what to call it, more of a shave cream actually but I've had mixed results. It seems to get gummy at times, usually if I don't use enough water so that might be my fault. Anyway, how do you guys feel about Nomad? $9 for a bar and it lasts for quite a while, am I cutting myself short with that?

I love Nomad, it is by far my favorite. I use the cream 99% of the time. I use it for special occasion. My everyday is C.O. Bigelow.
I've read nothing about it being "sub-par". It has a unique scent; it seems that people either like it or hate it.

I have read all kinds of reviews, but still haven't pulled the trigger on the stuff... yet. As with all reviews, there is high praise, and those who disparage the stuff when it comes to the function of it BUT - I have yet to hear someone say they don't like the scent lol.
Is it wrong to like something and run with it - No. But I got to say you might just be cutting yourself short if variety is something you aren't opposed too. There are so many creams and soaps out there that all do great things for your face that to not try at least some… I would say, is cutting yourself short.
If you are buying Nomad - you can afford to try others I would think. Give it a shot - its fun! ; )
Maybe try the sample thing out?David

I tired the Art of Shaving sample and like the pre-shave lotion, rather oily but I liked it. The after shave I like also but at $38 a bottle, I don't know. The shave cream was rather gooey. Might stick with their preshave lotion, stick with the Nomad soap and try the Nomad aftershave. Fun stuff

Cool! From what "I" am hearing maybe you might like The Gentleman’s Refinery. The aftershave is awesome! But it's dear too. They do sell them in travel size. I think you might like it. The cream makes my face feel awesome and the aftershave isn't oily. Moreover you can use it summer or winter - Yes I love the stuff lol. But I only use it now and again.

p.s. I put on AoS aftershave balm with a bit of water mixed in to cut down on that oil feel. YMMV ; )

Here's the lowdown from my perspective. I have the cream, love the scent, great performer.. The soap.. Not so much.. Here's what I hate about it.. It dries quick but the foam maintains the consistency so the dry mess looks like a proper lather. Even at its best, it doesn't lubricate well and the shave ends up being too harsh for my sensitive skin and when I forget myself and just see what looks like a proper lather, I end up with major burn. Even the el-cheapo stuff like Wilkinson or even Williams performs better, IMO.
If you want a soap that a lot of research went into making for optimum lubrication, lather and moisturizing (that's how you soften the stubble) wait for Colleen to start crankin'em out. She's got some killer scents, too. That's why I'm going through my old stock and really making an effort at keeping my SAD in check
