Thanked: 18The Body Shop Maca Root cream?
Has anyone tried the Maca root shaving cream from The Body Shop? I heard it is good stuff and inexpensive, plus I have a The Body Shop store very near, so I'm tempted...

Thanked: 275I've tried it. I don't like the smell, but the lather is excellent -- thick and easy to build. And the price is reasonable (compared with high-end stuff).
If the store is easy to get to, pick up a free sample. It's plenty to find out if you like it or not.

Thanked: 3226I have not used a lot of different soaps but that is the only one that literally explodes into lather for me. By itself it is nice but in an uberlather with Cella some glycerin and lanolin it is wicked. So yea go for it.

My brother got some of this a while back and I thought nothing of it. Both scent and lather were poor. Don't let the 'cheap' price fool you. Get a shave stick like Palmolive and you will immediately see the difference.

Gentlemen:
I have several tubs of Macca Root shave cream from the Body Shop — the store in my area had a sale going. The cream makes rich lather, with good glide and comfortable cushion. The fragrance is acceptable. Recently I set up my daughter with the DE razor, brush and a tub of Macca Root. She loves it. Good stuff Macca Root.

Thanked: 3226One problem with all shave soaps and creams is the scent. It is a subjective thing and so some like it and some don't. I find Mecca Root shave cream has a clean fresh scent and not the least offensive. OTH other might find the opposite. Another one that seems to really typify this is Arko, which I like and others don't. When getting a new soap for the first time that is a risk you have to take.
As far as making a shave soap produce a good lather, that could take some experimenting to find the best way. They are all a bit different in that respect too. The type of water that you have makes a difference too. Ours happens to be very good which makes things easier.

Like cpcohen 1945 said, stop by the store and ask for a sample. They will squirt a good amount into a little tub for you to take home and give it a go. I did that once while in San Francisco for the night. I forgot to take a shave stick, so I went to the Body Shop, which was around the courner from my hotel, and got a sample for the next morning's shave. It is good stuff.

I used it for a bit too. I could not get over the smell for some reason. Though at first I was using too much. I soon realized that a little dab on your brush will do you just fine. So basically I was getting too much of the scent. Btw, I face lather. I also got the balm. For some reason I liked the smell better. Strange since it is the same scent. Anyway, I gave the stuff to my brother in hopes that he would pick up wet shaving.
