I've been a soap and shaving cream junkie this past year, but when Xpec came along, I got sidetracked. The scent is fantastic and it lathers up so nicely. Heck, even my better half has taking a liking to this cream. So that may be one for you to try, David.

being new to these products with the exception of my 15-year old mug w/Williams, the only other soap I have is the SRD Vetiver. I'm also using TOBS pre-shave oil and their Jermyn St after-shave cream for sensitive skin. If the more experienced know of the better soaps and creams to help a new convert get a closer shave and put out the fire from the abrasion and razor burn more quickly, THAT would really be helpful...
Otherwise, I find that I am at a LOSS in terms of what scents smell like what, according to an online description. "top notes" and "fougere" and "bergamot", WTF??? OK, so, what does it smell like, in ENGLISH? (Then again, even if I figure that out, there's no telling what SWMBO is really gonna dig!) I hate a lot of clutter in the lavatory, and am considering building a shaving station/shelves over the fixtures to get anything else I get better organized. Since I'm committed (now) to getting a 7-day rotation of razors squared away, it probably follows that I'm going to wind up with a bunch of these soaps and after-shave creams (OH YES, the CREAMS. Balms and splashes just don't take out the sting just yet).
Maybe we should make a list of all the soaps we have and another list of those we don't, collate it down so everybody mails something different around in a bi-weekly rotation or something. Then each person would be trying 20+ soaps a year. I know, that's just crazy talk. Buying 20 soaps that would, on their own, each last about two years and piling them up in the corner makes more sense...

Loyal
Rotation turned up the MWF yesterday. It's still right up there on the top of my list for straight razoring.

I started out using cream from Trumper and have kind of stuck with it ever since.
I don't like to have too much at any one time, though, as I often shave somewhat irregularly and it takes me an age to get through a pot. By the time I got three quarters of the way through my last tub of rose, it only smelled of soap.
However, I've started using more than I really need to (which actually makes for a lovely thick lather) and I currently have two tubs on the go -- one violets and one sandalwood.
I do like to use the corresponding skin food, as well, in a slightly OCD kind of way.

Nope. I have my preferences, but not a one-product loyalty of any kind.
My personal problem is that there are just way too many cheap products that perform like a champ e.g. St James of London Cedarwood & Clarysage cream, Palmolive stick, Palmolive cream (EU), De Vergulde Hand, Mitchell's Wool Fat, P.160 (1kg for €25 is pretty cheap to me)...see, that's six already. Add some Taylor's of Old Bond Street, Edwin Jagger and Castle Forbes and SHAZAM! Lather library. I was looking into maybe getting something D.R. Harris soap and Xpec, but that would just be getting a bit too ridiculous for me.
