Good Old Palmolive Cream
I've been travelling for most of the last two weeks and most of the time when I'm on the road I've been working my way through a set of shaving soap samples. It's a nuisance to use those thin disks though because they have a tendency to slide around with the brush rather than being able to work the brush across the soap. Some days I manage to get a good lather, other days not so good.
I had a tube of the red tube Palmolive cream in my dopp kit and decided to use it today - simple and easy to lather up in any hotel room coffee mug or water glass, and got a very nice shave with it on only 24 hours of growth. The scent is nothing to get excited about but it's a nice clean smell that doesn't clash with any after shave.
For a few bucks a tube it's a great value and I can see why this stuff has been around as long as it has. Think I'll just stay with this and/or Prorasso cream when travelling in the future. Easy to pack, easy to use, and one less hassle when away from home.

Palmolive is a great shave cream. I can't find it locally, so I had my sister bring some up earlier this year. I don't use it often, but it's always a great shave when I do!

Thanked: 2I picked up Polmolive for the first time in Morocco. It was about 10 Diram/tube, or around $0.60c. For the price it's a great cream.
Try loading your brush with a nice hard soap that only lathers so so. Add a pinch of palmolive and you're off to the races.
Regarding the hard soaps sliding, I leave a bit of lather/water in the bottom of the container after the first use. I find that helps to hold it in place.

In this old thread I mentioned an e-bay seller with good deals on Palmolive. He's still selling.
He's just doing the 6-pack now. I think he'll take a best offer of $10, including shipping. If not you'll have to cough up $11.50.
Edit - Apparently I can't (or haven't figured out how to) link to threads in this new forum format. The seller I mentioned in that old thread was quique666 .Last edited by Howard Wallace; 12-14-2006 at 04:50 PM.

Palmolive is definately an excellent cream.
I try and use it every week or two to
remind myself how good it actually is.

I love the stuff! And it's in my price range! Just used it last night w/ my 20 yr old Plisson pure badger brush and my Electric razor. That's Electric as in Electric Cutlery Co. of Newark, NJ circa 1890 - 1910. The only other shaving cream I've used is Kiss My Face, scentless version. I prefer the lather of the Palmolive. Tho' I can use the KMF w/o a brush on the road if necessary w/ no problem.

Thanked: 346I'm a big fan of the Palmolive as well. I generally dislike the way creams shave but palmolive seems to shave more like a soap than a cream.
You can improve the scent by adding a few drops of an EO (I like lavender), shake it up, and let it sit for a week to meld.

wish I had some other shavers closer I'd love to split a sixpack. It would take me forever to use that much of one kind of creme. The above seller is right he does have a great per pack price.

Thanked: 346You can get it at CVS pharmacies, it's only about $4/tube there. Not as nice as $10/6, but pretty cheap nonetheless.

Just for fun.....I read this somewhere, don't ask where; cuz I'll never remember.
Over the years everyone pronounces Palmolive as Paal-molive. But the name orginates from the oils used to make it.
Palm oil and Olive oil.....thus Palm-Olive...lol. pure soaping trivia.....
