It does have a very interesting and hard to describe scent (can you say: "The 70's")
Tabac is one of my favorites and the stick is was I take on trips, to cling to every part of wet shaving that I can.
I was working in Germany last week and one of the German's who currently lives in the US saw the SRP site on my computer. That started a wet shaving discussion...and I later brought my Tabac stick to show him. He was dumbstruck at the sent, his Grandfather used Tabac and it brought back memories. I've since sent him a tube of Tabac and an assortment of DE blades for the DE razors he inherited...and a note for him to try "shaving like your Grandfather"Support Movember!

Thanked: 116Originally I think I remember posting that I didn't like anything about the soap other than the smell... Well, that has changed. Since getting my Rooney Heritage Super Silvertip size 3 I've used this soap 7 or 8 times. Maybe my brush just sucked before or wasn't good with tallow based soaps but this brush is the truth and this soap really performs well when I use it!

You have inspired me to try Tabac and today was the first try. Scent is not a problem as I think it is rather weak but SWMBO loves the scent. As to the lather, it was great. Very thick, tallowy, slick. Lots of cushion. Maybe I could have used more water. But yes, a great soap.
Nothing is as it ever was.

I'm glad I came upon this thread...and very timely too. I just received some Tabac soap and my first impression was "smells like an old school bathroom freshener". I've used it a couple of times and I must say it lathers like a champ and you get a great shave, but the smell, to me, is offputting. I'll try it again at some point, hoping that as other have put it, my olfactory appreciation of it may change, but for now it's a second stringer.

I ended up grating my stick of Tabac into a bowl because I find lathering that way so much easier. It's a great soap, and one I'll get again.

Without doubt my most favored soap. I use it sparingly as it spoils me for using my other soaps and creams. I like the scent as it reminds me of the lather my barber used when I was much, much younger.
