Just got some MWF
I usually use some type of Nancy Boy Shaving cream because my skin is so sensitive to strong scents. I've tried English Soaps in the past with bad results but decided to give MWF a chance. The only Shaving Soap I use is SRD unscented but you know how it is...got to try something new.
The first thing I noticed is the strong scent. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but I was afraid it was going to burn my face off. I'm glad to say it didn't, in fact it left my face feeling great and no redness at all! Even after the poor lather I made.
I have 3 different brushes that range from 51mm, 49mm and 46mm. I've used all three with the MWF in order to find a good match. The one with the 51mm got all beat up, so it won't ever touch Shaving Soap again. I'm still figuring out the correct water to soap ratio. It doesn't help that I've used 3 different brushes LOL. So which brush would you guys use with the MWF, a Simpson Classic 1 (46mm x 22mm) or the Simpson Commodore x2 (49mm x 22mm)?

Thanked: 116I have to say I absolutely love the stuff and I'll never be able to live without it. My buddy actually bought me a puck after telling me to try it.... 30 or so times and ignoring him. I can't comment on the brushes as I don't have them but stiffer is better when dealing with hard pucks. My Rooney Heritage size 3 in super badger has enough backbone to deal with it and my Omega boar loooooves the stuff. As long as you get the brush loaded without having to apply too much pressure you should be golden.

Thanked: 3225Both my boar brushes, my 3 band silver tip badger, both 2 band badgers and a synthetic brush all produce a good lather with MWF. They are all different lofts and knot diameters so I am under the impression any brush will do with MWF. I think it is just a matter of figuring out a technique that works with MWF.
If you face lather try wetting the brush, shake it out and load some MWF and then keep loading more. Then dip just the tips in water and load a bit more. Wet face and work up a lather adding a bit of water now and then by wetting just the tips till you get a good lather going. Seems to work more or less the same for all the brush types I have.

Thanked: 220MWF can be tricky. It helps to first soak the puck in warm water & shake most of the water out of your brush. It requires more swirling than other soaps, but as BobH says, just keep adding water to the tip of your brush while loading, and it'll start to make lather. I have good luck with any brush, but I usually use a Thater which has good backbone to it. I quite enjoy MWF, it has a nice smooth feeling to it, & provides lots of cushion.

Sometimes, seeing helps a great deal. +1 on a damp, not drippy wet brush. You're loading on the puck, not building the lather. Here's Lynn showing how to load a brush. Different soap, same process.

Once you get the lathering part down, MWF is a great soap!!! I use it just about every time I shave.

I agree that MWF is a great soap once you get the lathering down. In fact it is the only soap that I have tried so far that will leave my face smooth and dry in a good way. Like have baby powder on your skin without the feeling of the powder. Not really sure if that makes sense or not. Made more sense in my head than typed, but hopefully you get what I mean. I usually use a boar or finest badger to lather with. Something with alittle more backbone.

Thanked: 116Very mild, perhaps a light pine and lavender scent?
