Thanked: 4Hard Soaps vs. Creams?
What's the reason for companies making hard soaps and creams in the same scent? Do the creams have better ingredients for shaving?

Thanked: 3225Couldn't really say about the ingredients part but my guess would be to give customers what they want. Some prefer one to the other and if you make only one you may loose some customer base. Just a simple business proposition.

Many folks prefer creams cause they are easier to work with. Some prefer soaps cause it's the classic way. Many other reasons of course but the model of soaps and creams seems to work well.

Thanked: 18IMHO, the lather of soaps is slicker and easier to rinse from the blade than creams. Also the lather of soaps lasts longer (doesn't generally dry) on most cases.

I think it is the brush.. Some bars abd creams react diffirenty to boar and badger.. Just my opinion though..

KWilliams,
Some gentlemen prefer creams and some soaps, not because one is better than the other; rather, it's because of personal taste. I prefer soaps over creams, but I also have a big number of creams in my stash.

Creams generally, and I emphasize "generally" offer more cushion and protection. Soaps on the other hand tend to be thinner, and give you more feedback when you shave, in other words you can feel the blade better. TBS mentioned soaps are the classic way to go.
Many guys mix the two together to create "Uber" lather. You can add 5 drops of glycerin to the mix for a lather explosion. You can use the same fragrance, or mix and match. We have assumed control !

I use soaps mostly , though I like creams too, because I am cheap. A puck of soap will last me far longer than a jar of cream.

I don't get a lot of shaves from a tub, so my everyday is Bigelow in the tube, it's a good cream & cheap.

Thanked: 12Variety? Convenience? Preference?
Just like deoderant bro, which do you prefer, roll-ons, clear, spray etc?
I'd rather use a cream than a soap cause I can just load my brush and face lather.Last edited by LikesBBS; 04-18-2013 at 10:07 PM.
