I use a bar of Dial soap. My son has a severe case of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and, for some reason the doctors cannot explain, has over 50 shave soaps and creams. However the only one he keeps under his pillow at night is Mitchell's Wool Fat.

My favorite so far is MWF with a small dollop of Cella. Makes a wonderful lather.

Used MWF this morning: an explosion of lather! Even easier than Tabac last night, and gentler too. Maybe we just have good water here in North Texas, but it was really simple: soak the brush, leave it on top of the soap for two or three minutes while I rinse my face, shake out the brush, give it a few swirls to load, and face lather. It was delightful.

Any of those soaps will suit you well. MWF is a bit harder to lather but is very moisturizing. Tabac is incredibly easy to lather but is less hydrating. Cella is very popular for a reason, too.

I suppose it doesn't really matter which one you choose. As someone else said, you'll eventually own all three....

A someone who is allergic to lanolin, I can't use MWF. My vote is for Tabac. Be wary if your skin feels itchy or unduly red, you may have the same allergy.

I'll tell you this. I own and use both Tabac and MWF. I put my vote for Tabac for two reasons. MWF, while it gives me a smother shave, it is much harder to lather up in extremly hard west Texas water and it actually causes my skin to slightly break out after several consquetive shaves. I love Tabac - great soap, great smell and great lather. MWF is a touch better smelling though. Damn it, get them both!
    Cheers!

MWF is the only one of those I've tried, and I really like it. Easy to use (load up your brush well, add water slowly as you mix the lather), slick and great cushion for a soap, and has a mild/clean smell.

Silents, thanks for the warning about lanolin allergies. I've used lanolin based products before, so I'm not very concerned about that. However, I will keep an eye for any reactions.

So for so good, MWF seems to be the clear leader with 50% of the votes, next is cella with 30% of the vote, and tabac in third with the remaining 20% of the vote.

I'd recommend Proraso. It was my first soap I purchased and its amazing stuff. Also recently purchased some Gentleman Bill's Bay Rum soap when I ordered a new Big Daddy strop from StarShaving.com. I really like it. I also have some Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood on the way that I can tell you about once I try it.

I thought about the Proraso but I would like to try these three first.
