No matter who wins game 7 it has been a barn burner of a series so there should be no complaints from the fans or the NHL.
Bob
Hey Bob. Good to see ya... Figuratively speaking at least.
So, tonight I guess we'll see if the Oilers are going to make a liar out of me.
Figures, no sooner do I make a prediction and they make a monkey out of me.
Well, they pulled it out. So the Panthers win for the first time in their 30 years in the league and 31 years will become 32 since a Canadian team has won it.
Sad news in the hockey world today: Johnny Gaudreau from the Columbus Blue Jackets and his brorher Matthew who played in the AHL were both killed by a drunk driver while cycling yesterday. To make matters worse Matthew's wife is expecting and they were both home preparing to be groomsmen in their sister's wedding scheduled for today. They both were relatively newly wed and have small children. The more you find out, the more tragic the situation becomes. It almost reads like the bus full of nuns and orphans etc, etc.
Please remember these two young men and their families in your prayers.
Very sad news
Looks like the season has staahtah....it’s about time !!!
Go Bruins
No kidding! I was having the hockey Jones.
Interesting thing: the Lightning had their first home game of the seasonscheduled for tomorrow but it was postponed because of the hurricane. Who was it against? Carolina Hurricanes.
Oh yeah...Go Bolts!
The Bruins got some Big Defensemen in the off season...and signed Swayman as the #1 goalie....and Ullmark was dealt away. Got some new faces to learn.
And names...and numbers. I keep saying, " Okay, who is wearing 59 again," or, "Now what number is Geekie," or what's 28's name? Oh yeah, Girgensons."
One thing I was thrilled to see was
Vasi was on fire last night. Last year was an anomoly with that injury and surgery and 12 weeks out after surgery. Thankfully he was back in true form last night though. Watching him do those Van Damme splits still baffles me. That hurts me just to look at it.
Back in the early ...mid 1970’s....you could see their faces...hair flowing and could easily see who was who....Miss those days
Yeah, and most of em had no chicklets in the front too.:roflmao
A freind got tickest to the game one time. It was when the North Stars where in MN!
Or seats were just behing the visotors bench.
Not a good seat to see the play on the one side of the rink but much fun to see the players up close.
Understandubly why but fun to see how worn and well used their skates and gloves were for example.
You don't notice that on TV.
Plus you get a real feel for depth and intelectual nature of their discourse with their opponents.
We've had seats 5 rows behind the benches before. Fun but maybe not great for taking small children as it may increase their vocabulary in a negative fashion.
I see ...Stamkos is no longah in Tampa ....
Who else didn’t they pay ?
Other guys whose heads wouldn't fit through the door.
Made his first trip back last night and got his little ovation but he couldn't score on Vassie. That's why Vasilevskiy is still there making the big $$$.
Don't get me wrong. I like Stamkos and I would have liked it if he had stayed. But you could tell the end of the playoffs he was making a big show, posturing to prove himself. These guys get a case of the ass about themselves. They start to think they're worth their weight in gold.
Sure he was a good player and a valuable team member but no one is unexpendable. Your number is 91 not 99 and even if it were that still wouldn't mean you're safe from trading. Remember even 99 got traded 3 times. If the great one can get traded so can you buddy.
Let's not forget what happened to New York with Hairdo Lundqvist. They were tied into his big contract which he aged out in. He wasn't playing up to the dollars so they couldn't play him and they couldn't buy him out. That was bad for eveybody, the team was hurt financially, Lundqvist looked bad and the fans lost the lustre for him. Besides, what they got for the cap hit savings will pay off in the long run. Guentzel is paying off already. Geekie is growing into his skates and is tough for a 20 year old kid. It was painful for a moment but in a season or two (maybe less) fans will be saying, "Stam-who?"
Geekie was a Bruin last year...I liked his game. Didn’t even realize he was gone...lmao !
Bruins are stinking up the joint
You must mean Morgan Geekie. This is Conor his younger brother. They picked him up with Moser from Utah in the Sergachev trade. 20 years old, played his firat NHL game with the Lightning. He was a stud in the minors scoring just under Bedard who he is outplaying now at NHL level. He's a few years younger than Morgan, a little bit taller and heavier. 6'4" 203. He might even still grow an inch or two.
Yeah, I breifly saw a score last night, Bruins were getting whipped pretty good by Carolina. Didn't see the final though.
Boy that was quite a game in Denver the other night. Avs were playing their hearts out and Vassie just shut the door late. Bolts defense was on fire in front if him though too, best their defense has been since their Cup runs. That had the feel of a playoff game.
Just a plug for a new hockey league: Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) or in French Canada Ligue Professionnelle de Hockey F?minin, (LPHF). There are 6 charter franchises, just like the original six in the NHL. Three from Canada, three from the US. Their cup is the Walter Cup named after the Walter family, its benefactor, also similar to Lord Stanley's Cup.
They had their first season last year. I just found out about this so I am a little late to the party but have watched a little bit and let me tell you, what I saw was no girlie tea party. This was full contact, watch your chicklets hockey. I haven't seen enough to pick a team to pull for but I sure hope to. The more hockey the better as far as I'm concerned providing it is not a watered down sissy match which this isn't from what I've seen.

I don't think I need to say this but I have no horse in this race, no vested interest, only an interest in seeing more good, real hockey.
Oh...ok...Morgan Geeke just scored for Boston vs Calgary tonight .
Game 2 of a heck of a back to back home and home series aka "The Battle of Florida." The Lightning get beat at home in a special teams blunder last night. The Lightning humiliated the Panthers at home tonight in a shutout for their back up goalie.
Stats were ridiculous, 61 penalty minutes and a couple of 5 on 5 line brawls. This was after the game ended.

I love southern style hockey!
My Blackhawks continue to struggle. I like the consistency.
Like the Bruins I always respected them for their longevity. Hopefully they cycle back soon though. They have a storied history and some promising young players. Bedard should be a great player when he matures. It is always interesting how these kids come up through the junior leagues and are going to be the next Great One then they hit the big league and everybody is a star. He'll pull it out though. It's just a testament to the level these guys perform at. Every one of them is a phenomenon, even the taxi squad are at that level. It just amazes me to watch them play.
Bruins at Lightning tonight. Should be a hell of a good game period good luck to your fellas Ness! May the best team win.
Geekie brothers play against each other tonight for the first time.
With the 4 Nations tournament starting just a few minutes ago tonight let me say good luck to all teams from all nations. Should be some great hockey.
I do have to say that it was sad to see the fans in Montreal booing the Swedish team and other non-Canadian geusts. It shows very poor sportsmanship. A shame that anouncers had to ask the crowd to show respect to anthems and teams. Hopefully that will put an end to it for the tournament.
I think you had better be prepared for more booing of US teams and the US anthem regardless of the sport from Canadians. It is part of the national anger that is building from what trump has been saying. Poor sportsmanship yes but also understandable.

Bob
A lot gets blamed on Trump. That notwithstanding this is not the first time I have seen this. It must be a cultural thing there as I saw them do it in Toronto when the Lightning were playing there in one of the playoffs in '22. Trump wasn't even president then. Plus there are plenty of news articles of players and sportscasters decrying this phenomenon.
Not trying to make this an argument and it's not a bash Canada exercise. I would decry it no matter the source. If it were Americans I would protest it loudest of all. Sometimes fans in their zeal do obnoxious things. Especially to flags and anthems it bothers me.
In the past week I have read of Canadians booing US NBA and NFL teams. I do not think Americans realize how many Canadians are angered by trump this time around. These are not normal times we are living in and that may have changed the Canada/US relationship permanently. Yes, this is a cultural thing that I have not seen to such a large extent before. People are also making an effort not to buy US products or travel to US destinations. This change in relationship is not something that is good and normal times I would protest it too.

Looking at the standings finally
Been pretty hectic since Christmas here
Aves are in the middle of the mix at least
Yeah funny how teams can be cup winners one year and middle of the pack next year or two. Thanks to the salary cap the days of dynasty teams are gone. I actually think it's a good thing. It keeps everyone on the same plane and works to keep players humble. Take Stamkos for instance. His contract came up and he played chicken and lost. Now there's talk of the preds trading him. Don't get me wrong, I like him but they get the big head about themselves. Salary cap is a check and balance that makes the competition fierce and the pack tight.
Honestly I haven't really seen how the west is shaking out. Boy the east is tight.
The Blackhawks have ruined the sport for me. I can’t even watch this dysfunctional organization floundering at the bottom of the league anymore. They should be in line for another first pick overall…..that they will waste.
I hate that for you and for them. They seem to be snake bitten. It"s like they're cursed (not that I believe in that). Even stars like Bedard are not performing to expectations. I don't understand it. They've had a coaching change. Maybe they need a management change? Hopefully their luck will change soon.
They aren’t cursed. Cursed by shitty management maybe. Yes, they had a coaching change but not a good one. They went cheap again and pulled someone from the wreckage to fill in. What they need is an owner that wants to win. Then he gets a GM that didn’t come from the Cubs of all places. Bedard is wasting away.

Just sayin'
