Thread: Any Hockey Fans Out There????

Looks like almost the whole NHL is playing next Saturday
By my rough count 28 out of 32 teams are playing ???

Okay somebody explain this to me, this might be why I have never really paid attention in the past

4 Teams going into the Semi Finals ??? So all four teams can be eligible for the final ??

Canada and Finland are 1:1
Sweden is 0:2
USA is 2:0

Today Finland vs Canada

If Canada wins in regulation, it would have five points. Because Canada beat Sweden in the opening game, it would hold the tiebreaker edge
If Sweden wins in regulation and ends up with five points. Canada would advance to the final.
If Finland wins in regulation, it would have five points. Finland also beat Sweden in the round robin, so it would advance to the final.
If Finland or Canada wins in overtime, the winner would have four points and would have to await the result of the USA-Sweden game.

That is the weirdest thing I have heard ??? Why would USA have to play again if they are already in the finals ??

So with Canada 4-0 in the 3rd it looks like USA vs Canada Rematch ??

So if Canada wins then we are at 1:1 between USA and Canada do they have to play another game ???

That is a head scratcher. Saturday after USA vs Canada they said US doesn't have to play again till the final.

Here's another thing that stinks. Russia isn't included because of Ukraine. I guess I understand the reasoning but I just hate when sports get tangled up in this stuff.

It certainly would be more interesting with Russia in it just with their goalies alone, Vasilevskyi, Shesterkin, Bobrovsky, just among the top ones.

Just for starters the team with Vasilevskiy, Kutchreov, Ovechkin, Panarin and Malkin off the top of my head would be a hard team to beat.

There is a long history of exclusions and boycotting in sporting events. Nothing new there.

Granted I have only played in Round Robin events Tossing Darts, but it has always been double elimination
I just don't see how this makes sense UNLESS USA loses to Sweden tonight
Even then their points system makes no sense

No, I know. I just think, maybe naively, that sports should transcend that. But then take as an example the '36 Olympics when Hitler sought to make a superiority statement. But maybe that's a separate issue. Still, it blows holes in any lofty ideals about sports.

It is all entertainment.

In a ways similar to nascar and the datona 500 I watched yesterday.

They stop the race at least 2 times and bunch things up to make it look better.

If you are a lap down why should you be alowed to join the lead group?

I don’t think Canada is done here. If the two teams meet again on Thursday, my money is in Canada.
