Noob stropping paste question :)
Very excited to finally receive my Dovo green paste.
I expected it to be dry(ier) but it wasn't. The good about that is it ended up spreading nicely and evenly along my least favorite strop.
The bad news is that 24 hrs later and if I touch the strop lightly with the tip of my finger green comes out. Is this normal to take so long? Guess at this point can't even think of bringing a blade to this strop unless I want it to turn green and make a mess.
From your experience folks, how long does it normally take your Dovo paste to dry?

Has the issue resolves itself and how thick did you apply it. Pastes are used sparingly and often excess is wiped off with a rag.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 13246You do realize that Dovo Green paste and the Green Chromium Oxide pastes that people discuss on here, are two totally different things...
Most of the CrOx pastes for razors are at about .50 Microns
The Dovo green paste is part of their system of pastes that goes Green - Red - Black, only the Black is designed to be shaved off of..
The latest version of the article that is in the Wiki

The part about Dovo pastes
Pastes can be used after the hones and before the final stropping also these can be used for re-freshing the edge before going back to the hones for a touch-up... Some shavers even use pastes to "sharpen" the razor after the bevel set has been done...
A few different types
Dovo Pastes:
Green 5-8 micron
Red 3-5 micron
Black 1-3 micron
Dovo pastes are a much more mild cutter then say a diamond paste of the same micron size...
To answer the original question... Years it takes Years for the Dovo paste to dry, that is why you apply it very lightlyLast edited by gssixgun; 11-10-2013 at 04:19 PM.

I have the Dovo white / grey past which I applied sparingly to the linen side of one of my strops...let it dry for 24 hours. It's effective is under debate, but it seems to help out on the edge.
I also have the Dovo green paste, so far untouched.
The idea behind me getting this was that if my CrOx balsa board started to lose effective, I would reapply the green paste to it.
Would that be the correct application for it, and now that I know, a light application?

I tried it on my cheap strop's leather, maybe I could on its canvas (more like cotton or cloth not like the Dovo strop's linen)? I don't want to paste a Dovo strop :s

phrank and ffarouki: dovo green is completely different from 0.5 micron chromium oxide... 0.5 micron chromium oxide paste or powder is considered a finishing paste/powder... dovo green is the coarsest of the dovo pastes, followed by red which some people liken to an 8k hone, followed by dovo black which some would consider a finishing paste.. if you are going to use dovo green you might as well get some dovo red and dovo black, and more strops of whatever material to use them on... balsa may not be the best media for dovo pastes, i dont know..

If I was able to get some chromium oxide powder, do you suppose I should apply it to the canvas or leather side of a strop?

Put it where you won't cross-contaminate your canvas or smooth leather. For me that was the back side of my leather...which will xfer a little to the backside of my canvas, but i don't plan on using it there. I got mine today, stropped 5 on it tonight, quite nice. I bought what Maggard's sells, a semi-paste and mixed it onto the leather with NFO. No waiting.

I only use clear paste, the oils from my palm.
