Here's what the vendor suggests to remove the creases where he has folded it into the envelope - would this work or destroy it?

    There are two techniques.
You can wet the leather with clean water, just damp, and iron it with a hot steam iron.
Better if you can wet it with isopropyl alcohol and iron it.
Actuallt the creases will not make any difference to the stropping effect.
    Cheers,

Well, personally I wouldn't put a hot iron directly on the leather - I'd iron it through a tea towel or similar. It could work, and it's worth a try.

In answer to your previous question I don't sell but I might still have an old hide in storage. If things don't work out with this one PM me and I'll have a dig around for you.

So in conclusion, I figured I'd iron with a warm iron over a teatowel and a light spray of water, and it has definitely reduced the creases - in fact, I'd say that I can see them but can hardly feel them with my fingers at all.

Only problem is that now there are water stains

The stains on the suede-like side of the strop were mostly able to be brushed out and erased out with a pencil eraser, but on the smooth reverse side, I think they are permanent.

Oh well... I'll probably slice it up when I practice anyway. The ebay seller earned themselves a neutral review - as they did state they would fold it, just happened to not mention that folding it would cause deep creasing.

The dealer should also be able to suggest how to get the stains out. Has been my experience that if wetting leather is necessary, it should be done to the entire surface, lightly with a sponge. Steam irons often collect calcium if not used for a while and that can cause spots. Lightly wetted surface, thin cloth over it, and dry iron should have worked with much less staining, and may still help to reduce the staining. Expecting a shipment myself, hope they don't fold it, but I expect to stain mine anyway. Good luck with it.
