Victor,
Yes, Chicago Screws actually, made for leather work. One side looks like a smooth domed rivet, the other has a slotted head. This allows for my strops to be taken apart in case they become damaged or soiled.

It's a nice natural color but not as neat on the edges. I have not used mine yet to any great extent to comment on whether it is better or not. Kees is the tester on this one and we will see how long term use pans out.

That linen looks the right stuff Tony. I would be interested in a couple of strops worth to go with the stretched strops I have. I would make them into a continuous loop strop to solve the problem of movement. Let me know if this is possible please Tony.

Tony, so, if you put an additional loop at the end of the linen, and cut the holes for an existing best strop, could you then replace or add to the 'linen' on the strop now? i.e. a bolt on addition?... <crosses fingers> - John

That's a very interesting look. I'd like to hear more about how the action is on this stuff.

Exactly! A bolt on upgrade <g>. I made a strop like this a while back. The hole spacing on my strops is standard so the "kit" could be a linen punched at the top, a leather end cap and metal dee at the bottom. For those with newer #1 Bests it could have a second handle as well.
Mind you guys the linen costs more than the cotton weave does and will vary a good 1/2" or so over the length of a normal strop depending on humidity.
It comes in 2 1/2" and 3" widths. It will be a week or two as I am finishing up new wide paddles now and need to make more latigo and horse Bests next week. I'd get more done if I could stop getting in fights here though!
You guys have been great through all this.

Vic,
She is dishing out homemade rice pudding right now for dessert after a nice dinner. Just needed to check in quickly to see if I had gotten into more trouble!
