You seriously moved the bar up for disciplinary action....I can't think of a worse memory that spending my life in the bottom of a hole with Jame Gumb leaning over talking to me in that simpering voice....condolences Nightblade.

Did he work a Cernavoda (sp?). I had a friend who was a teacher for the kids of the AECL workers who built that place.

I saw friend's parents use a switch on their kids, a mom usually, and saw and felt the consequences of the switch by having a few switch sparring sessions with friends.....the switch also can easily teach you the meaning of welt! OUCH!
Funny mentioning the hairbrush brought back the memory of the last time I was (hit). My mom in a state of fiery rage picked up her hairbrush, a frequent tool in the past, and started to swing at my head with it..I put a hand up to block the brush and it shocked her so much she yelled up the stairs crying....'Bill, he wouldn't let me hit him!' Big Bill yelled back down, 'What the hell do you think Pat, he is 11years old!' That was the last of any corporal punishment. From there on out, it was psychological torture, which is much worse.

I never let no one whack me on the hand. Sometimes you gotta man up.

I remember the teacher's favorite thing was to sneak op on you as you were turned around talking with your hand on the edge of the desk. WHACK the ruler came down!

Any one ever do the 'dance' with Mom? Got you by the arm, and you are spinning her around and around trying to get away.
Switch flying! If I did that to my kids, I would be in jail.

My dad was mild mannered. My mother, on the other hand, was a true example of a red head and a redhead's anger. She was 4'11' tall, oldest of four girls, worked side by side with my dad in our grocery store, kept a neat house and any infraction by myself or two older brothers was met with the meanest, tightest snap of a damp dish towel as we tried to get away from her. I think I would have preferred a swat with a strop 'cause that towel really did sting for a good time after each snap.

I had a nun so mad she one time ran through a row of empty desks to smack me with a ruler...they parted miraculously. Another one smacked me in the face as hard as she could while I stood in front of the entire class....I mean she wound up and open palmed me. It stung and my eyes 'watered.' She later became my biggest supporter, Sister Merriam Joseph. Funny start though....say Diamond Bar, CA......I used to cross Milsap Bar to take a trail down to the Feather to trout fish....lots of good memories and a couple of bad ones from that beautiful canyon.
(Forgot which one) but I remember seeing Diamond Bar somewhere.....I live on the East Coast now near the town I grew up in....kind of like a salmon migrating upstream to mate and die......
