There's also a movie about a guy that had a last name of X. I think we do this as a sort homage to that movie or that guy, I don't remember...

Oh, I thought it was a technique named after a certain group of super people who had special powers to manipulate steel, create great clouds of lather, and communicate voicelessly over great distances

Steve you are totally right. The comic book definitely came before the movie about that guy who's last name is X.
And Kyle76, you can read all about it starting with X-Men issue #1 (Marvel Comics). It will take you a while to get through all those issues but it will be well worth the investment, will improve your honing skills and your stropping technique.

Yes, but he'll have to get Xmen, Xforce, Xfactor, cross overs into other comics, 1st edition gold foil issues that come out before the real 1st editions, and, and,and..................whew! No wonder I stopped collecting.

But really, I was referring to X'sMen

You're welcome, anytime. I know little, but have opinions on almost everything, thus my feeling that the X is used to balance the forces applied to the razor so the toe gets about equal hone as does the heel and that with the small stones barbers used it also gets the whole or more of the edge on the stone. ???, but at least it sounds good.

    Jim,

Sorry. Have a read through this thread. Quite a few of the hone- and strop-meisters on the forum give their thoughts on the X pattern (and other related things). Someone asks a similar question to yours at about page 3, I think.

    James.

(There once was a man from Carolina,
Who wanted to get his edge finer.
    He asked on the forum,
    But died from the boredom.
All he got was a post from a rhymer!)
