    Default Why an "X" pattern?

When stropping and honing, if I understand it correctly, you start with the shoulder on the strop and drag at an angle, finishing with the toe on the strop. Then you flip it over, reposition with the shoulder on the strop and do the same thing in the opposite direction. Why wouldn't you just leave the toe on and finish at the shoulder for the reverse stroke?

    ... and to "X" is sublime ...

So if you have the time

    And the weather is fine

    Take some advice of mine:

"Strop not in a straight line!"

    (Though it isn't a crime)

    Here endeth the rhyme.

What a great way to save that one . . . I thought I was going to explode at the thought of explaining that again.

    I heard from a singer,
You just dab with a finger,
    But don't let it linger...

Oh alright, I have no idea. Don't use the stuff myself.
