I wear a paracord bracelet so I always have a way to hang my strop that I travel with, or the quick ties that Hirlau put me onto. So no bg deal, you can always poke a hinge pin up a little to hook your strop on to. Tc

    Great idea.

I think this is a sign that you have spent to many nights bored in a motel room.

There have years that I spent 250+ days n a hotel, so your right. At one time I had enough free nights that I was giving them to family, I still travel to the meets on free nights. Tc

I often sit in a chair or on the bed, cross my legs, and hook the end of the strop onto my foot with a loop of cord, when I can't find a good place to hang it.

I travel a lot and the past three months I’ve taken my full size strop and use a carabiner to hook it just about anywhere in a hotel room.

Those who travel frequently develop a specific routine to make sure they do not leave anything behind. When you travel occasionally, you do not have that routine. You will also be shaving in unfamiliar surroundings. Thus, I would suggest you take shaving gear that you would not mind damaging or losing.

A good hanging strop may get damaged if you store it in your luggage. If you must take it, roll it loosely rather than folding it. It is safer to make a cheap bench strop. I suggest veg tanned tooling leather glued to 1/4" balsa or basswood. You can get everything from your local hobby/craft store.

Take a cheap razor you would not feel bad losing or dropping on the floor. Do not take your best razor. I travel with a Gold Dollar that has been properly honed.

Do not take your best badger brush. When traveling, you do not have sufficient time to dry the brush before packing it. Synthetic brushes dry quickly and are generally inexpensive if you leave it behind.

I touch up the edge of my razors every few days, so if I am traveling for more than 3-4 days, I take a finishing hone with me.

Paddle strops are handy, used one for about a month r two, but I like my hanging strops. So for the last 4 years I have a Kanayama that has traveled or been in my bag 8-9 months out of the year. When I pack it goes into a strop sock and I lay it in the bag on its side and run it around the inside of the bag, then I pack my clothes and shaving kit. I used to carry a synthetic brush too, but I love badger so that's what I carry now. Pill bottle with holes, I use every day so I,m not worried about the moisture I leave it on the counter in the bathroom, but seriously if you take it out when you unpack when I finally get home 2-3 months later, I don't see any damage yet, if you forgot it and left it in the bag for a long time I could see that as a mildew issue.

The more you travel you will see it's really no different than It Was before, I have a razor case that was sold around here for a while that , makes no sure to damage to them, a shave stick, my par accord bracelet to hang the strop, and those flexible twist ties they sell that are 12" long can be bent into a brush holder, now travel. I have all my shaving great when I take long bike rides to, it all fits in a normal shave kit, and the strop is packed the same way except for I seal it in plastic, ( you never know when it rains or if your bags are sealed). I pack my hanging strop being careful not to crease it and I take a shoe lace and tie it to the front door knob.

If I take a hanging strop, I always roll it up then lay it flat when I get to my hotel-motel room. I always lay the strop on a table top and lap it that way. Recently I forgot my strop and used my forearm. Worked really well. Nice thing, you can't forget it and you have two to pick from in most cases.

Take 20 inches of para cord or a shoe lace and loop it around the bathroom door knob, with the door open. It is how I strop at home. This will put the strop at waist height. Hang it on the outside of the door so you will not forget it.

Dovo makes an excellent travel strop, ($40-60) roll it up to a 2-inch roll and put inside of a shoe in your bag or use a woman’s elastic ponytail band. You can buy a dozen of these for a buck or two, and last longer than rubber bands and stretch better. They are also fabric coated so as not to mark whatever they are holding. You will find many uses for these in the shop, and come in a variety of colors.
