Thanked: 292Those who travel frequently develop a specific routine to make sure they do not leave anything behind. When you travel occasionally, you do not have that routine. You will also be shaving in unfamiliar surroundings. Thus, I would suggest you take shaving gear that you would not mind damaging or losing.
A good hanging strop may get damaged if you store it in your luggage. If you must take it, roll it loosely rather than folding it. It is safer to make a cheap bench strop. I suggest veg tanned tooling leather glued to 1/4" balsa or basswood. You can get everything from your local hobby/craft store.
Take a cheap razor you would not feel bad losing or dropping on the floor. Do not take your best razor. I travel with a Gold Dollar that has been properly honed.
Do not take your best badger brush. When traveling, you do not have sufficient time to dry the brush before packing it. Synthetic brushes dry quickly and are generally inexpensive if you leave it behind.
I touch up the edge of my razors every few days, so if I am traveling for more than 3-4 days, I take a finishing hone with me.
