Default nicked Tony's strop.... what to do

I was stropping yesterday and my wife came in and asked me a question. When I looked away I mistakenly pulled down on my upstroke (I was at the near top and about to pivot the razor) and sliced a 3/8 section of my strop on the inside hand edge. It was a shallow cut and made a little flap that quickly tore off.

Now what.... is the strop ruined? Do I just strop over it? How will it effect the edge?

I still have the second Tony sent, but it doesn't have the linen on the other side.

No, the strop is not ruined and you may strop over it.

Don't feel bad. I did the same thing on a TM pasted paddle. Just smooth it out with some very fine sand paper or emery cloth if you want to minimize the damage. Otherwise, it shouldn't have any effect on the stroping.

I made several nicks, etc. in my new Dovo strop when I started out. I took some fine sandpaper and sanded the cuts/nicks down smooth, and then applied some mink oil on the entire strop. Solved the problem.

You can also use pumice stone to sand it out, too.

I have a couple knicks in my strop that never effect my stropping. Just curious, what grit sandpaper do most people use to smooth them out?

That's a good question - I've always used pumice. What grit is pumice (or are there varying types of pumice)?

Pumice works better at smoothing the nick out than sandpaper in my experience.

I also have the same problem, but I was thinking of just using some sandpaper. How bad does a nick have to be before it is considered a deep nick or cut? And alas, classicshaving is out of stock on the pumice stone...sigh
