Jump up to the SRP Wiki here as well. Lots of info there including this thread.

Default Yes...lotions do work, BUT ....

****> Yes I have tried various lotions on leather strops, and MOST will work okay. YOu need to be careful with the ingredients of the lotion, but I have recently found that

AVEENO Moisturizing Lotion has almost the exact same consistency, and results, as formal "Strop Dressing". I also have another one with little 'beads" in it, but have not tried that yet.

The benefit of the AVEENO, aside from the great "draw" it produced on the strop, was that it also moisturized the leather, and after drying for a while remained very supple!

Experimentation is what makes this skill such fun! We can always try new things, and find ways that work for us individually - from shaving to honeing to stropping!

    Go nuts!

This thread is living proof that most every question has been answered somewhere around here.

I just got saved from exposing myself as not having done sufficient research on the topic of "how long does a pasting last."

There is an amazing wealth of information here, and I'm mighty grateful for it!

Paste the "matched webbing" side of my 3" strop?
I was also trying to find out if I dry strop the "matched webbing" and what's the ratio to utilizing the "matched webbing"?
Something like: 10 - 20 on the webbing, 20 - 40 on the regular strop.

    Webbing:Strop , is it a 1-stroke:10-strokes, or 1:2, or 1:1

Thanks guys, (and gals if any)

I just rec'd a bottle of chromium oxide spray from SRD. For whatever reason the sprayer won't work. The chromium appears to be suspended in water. How would you suggest me applying the liquid to a hanging linen strop. I poured some into a shallow dish and it seems that it's very watery even after I vigorously shake the bottle. The directions say to spray evenly to achieve coverage????? It also says not to saturate. Anyone have experience with this form of chromium oxide.

I would call SRD and let them know.
