Thread: Feline Temptations

I'm going to be getting a kitten in another couple months, and I've never had one before. It struck me today that any wild strop in its natural habitat will dangle much in the same way a string or ball of yarn dangles that kitties are so fond of.

Does anyone have problems with their cats shredding their strop? I'm a wee bit concerned about my nice new TM Artisan being ripped to shreds.

I have a cat without claws and I have caught him a time or two batting at my strop. My strop is clipped to my towel rack in my bathroom, so to prevent any potential damage, I simply cover the strop with a towel when I'm not using it so he can't see it.

I haven't had the funds to buy my strop yet, and in any case it will be in a bathroom where the cats don't have access, but if anything dangles in a place where a cat can reach it (and you know how high they can jump), it will be batted and will gather scratches. Especially if the cat is a kitten.

Ah, thank you both. Perhaps I will be hanging it in the closet to be closed at all times lol.

Never mind the strop, cats can be mesmerized by straights as well.... it's not a good thing to let a cat bat a straight around. I accidently left one of my razors on the forced air heating floor vent to dry in the bathroom while I walked out to get something... a few seconds later I came back to see one of the critters with her paw out, trying to play with that razor! I no longer use the vent for drying my razor.....

We clip our cat's nails every 10 days or so to keep the claw damage to a minimum. She is absolutely obsessed with anything that hangs down or dangles in any way, but so far she has left my strops alone. I think it's because she hasn't seen them swinging yet. If it .... doesn't .... move....

I hear that. My cats are little trouble makers and the have gotten their paws on my straights from time to time. luckily they were closed.
There are one or two bite marks in my strop from one of them, but only on the handle so its all good.

One of them will attack, scratch and bite anything new that he sees, if you don't watch him 100% of the time.

Closet or bedroom may be just the ticket for keeping out of reach of cats.

Mine loves the smell of the strop, but has never clawed it.

As for loose razor attacking, it's horrible, I keep the straights in the same drawer as her treats. She'll try and hop into the drawer, but she's beginning to learn.

This brings back memories of kittens and swinging things Suffice it to say I was thankful I wasn't shaving at the time ! (though it wouldn't have been with a straight then)
