Seconding that YIKES and that ! Declawing is amputating the first joint of every toe on the front paws. Illegal in several countries and, I believe, some states; rightfully so in my opinion. And aside from the ethical aspect, being without front claws--a basic tool for hunting and defense for a cat--often has bad psychological effects. Declawed cats are much more likely to become biters, among other things.

That explains why my lucky rabbits foot is missing the first knuckles... and smalls like chinese food...

There are options to have plastic caps affixed outside the claws... but I'm only slightly less against this than I am declawing.

The only time our first cat ever really scratched anything badly was after we got his claws clipped - well except the afore mentioned dangling incident. We very quickly learned our lesson - no more clipping for him. Our second though ... she loves to scratch the carpet but fortunately not much else.

The other night mine attacked a moth on the curtains of my bedroom... she was hanging from the drapes for almost half an hour.

Still no attention to the strop other than sniffing though!
