    There are options to have plastic caps affixed outside the claws... but I'm only slightly less against this than I am declawing.

    The only time our first cat ever really scratched anything badly was after we got his claws clipped - well except the afore mentioned dangling incident. We very quickly learned our lesson - no more clipping for him. Our second though ... she loves to scratch the carpet but fortunately not much else.

    The other night mine attacked a moth on the curtains of my bedroom... she was hanging from the drapes for almost half an hour.

    Still no attention to the strop other than sniffing though!
