    Default strange question

hey there.. just got an Ebay strop, not a vintage one, but a new one,has a straight leather side, and a black dyed side with a cloth(not cotton/linen backing).. now here's my question..

when i got the thing, and pulled it out of the mailer, where the strop was curled the hard leather is starting to .. split? Crack? i don't know what else to call it, the leather is very dry, and stiff. i have a pot of dubbin and was wondering if that could be used to treat the leather with no ill effects?

If I'd received a strop in that condition, I would think the bast treatment would be to return it immediately and add some harsh words to the seller's feedback if he doesn't take it. It should never crack like that.

well, i look at it this way, i didn't spend too much on it( maybe 10$ canadian) so this could be a realy great practice strop in the end.

    Send it back!!!!

There are several strops available for way less then $50 that are proved performers in fact I think Vintage is still selling the #827 Illinois for around $30...
There are also several vendors here that sell great strops at low $$$

E-bay strops other than Vintage collector ones are normally not of any quality that I have seen...
If anyone has found one please let Liam know....

Please forgive me if I assumed wrong that you were looking for a low $$$ strop.....as there are tons of choices in the over $50 arena from TM, SRD and others that are simply the best available....

If it's cracked, couldn't it damage your razor?

Yes, send it back. Even if the seller say's "No Refunds, or "As is" I know you if you paid via Paypal, you can dispute the charge claiming that the product was not as described. You will get your money back. If the strop is as you described, it's not usable.
