Thanked: 4942I have the Yellowstone Bar and have used it on one of our Poly Webbings on the back of my Premium 1 Strop. I have been coming off the Super 12K and going straight to the Yellowstone with very good results. I have also tried it after the .5 diamond on felt and have been having very nice results. This is some very interesting stuff. I'll be playing with the powder next.

Thanked: 522Cerium Oxide
I just finished honing my Bismarck. It went something like this;
4k - 8k - Escher - Naniwa 12k - .5 diamond flatbed leather - .25 diamond flatbed leather - cerium oxide powder on denim (bluejean) wrapped around 1/2" thick balsa.
The cerium powder I have is just about pure white in color and is sold by the name "Super Cerium". Some people have reported that their cerium is yellowish or even brownish in color. From info I have read, the white stuff is supposed to be a finer grit.
By the way, I recently purchased my Naniwa 12k from Lynn. Great stone. I have nicknamed it "Feedback Central".
The following URL is where I got my "Super Cerium Oxide" Lapidary Supplies, Tools, Lapidary Equipment - Delta One Lapidary Supplies
I also have a Nakayama stone which I skipped this time around. We are very fortunate to have so many honing options in this day and age. I started out in 1968 with a 3 line Swaty with a Carborundum flattening stone and a DD # 50 strop. That is all most barbers had at their disposal back then. It wasn't until I discovered the internet about 10 years ago that I moved into the twenty-first century as far as razor honing is concerned. You younger guys have a great future with all the pending technological breakthroughs in the near and far future. Will you be honing your razors with lasers someday?? PROBABLEEE!!!

Hi,
Just a quick mention that cerium oxide is also used to polish telescope mirrors and lenses; you can get this high-grade of cerium oxide in the States from Willmann-Bell Inc at 6.50 USD for 4oz.

Thanked: 522Cerium Oxide
Our goal here is to achieve an understanding of this phenomenon called cerium so that each of us can benefit from the info and improve our razor edges. The more websites we can explore regarding this theoretically great stuff will help us achieve this goal. If you know something about it, don't hesitate to contribute what you know.
Phatman got the ball rolling. Don't disappoint the Phatman. Tell us what you know........!!JERRY

I've heard that the orange/brown cerium is radioactive and considered to be a carcinogenic. The whiter the better. That's what little I know.

Thanked: 13245Interesting stuff:
Comes complete with initial load of Covington super cerium. Just add water and spray onto polishing pad to begin
See all of our tumbling grit and polishes From the Delta site...
I have used my Leather Bench Strop, that I made just for this stuff, and I have been getting great results, on my razors and good feed back so far from the people that are using them....
The stuff I got is almost white in color and obviously much more fine than CrOx... and way, way, more expensive I spent $48 and I would guess it to be a pound... I sent some to Lynn so maybe he can compare it to the Yellowstone compound...
I just mixed it with Neats foot and put it on the leather...
I am doing 10 laps but the strop is a full 24 inches..
