Thread: Kanayama is a LIE!!!!!

Or rather, a typo....

This may or may not be of interest to most, but I thought it was pretty funny.

The Cordovan strops sold by Razorpur, and the one in my shaveden, are quite clearly stamped "Kanayama Razor Strop Company". Unfortunately, this company does not actually exist. It is actually the "KaNOyama Razor Strop Company", with an "o". I've been talking to the guy a bit (he's a corker, he is...) and he had no idea that the really nice brass stamp he bought and has used on his strops for so long has a misprint.

He was a bit put out when I pointed it out...but I kind of doubt that he'll change.

Fantastic workmanship on these strops, by the way...

I showed my wife the kanji (叶山) and she said it was "Kanoyama", and the letter head form the company is in big old Katakana--カノヤマ. He also sent me a picture of his brass stamp...Kanayama.

The person you are talking with is the guy from the German website, or someone within Japan? 叶 is primarily read as Kanaeru (叶える), and well you know how it goes with Japanese names.

As I said, I had a Kanayama strop that was more than 30yrs old, and I very much doubt, that the owner paid so little attention to his product, that he did not notice a mis-spelling of his own or company name. The Katakana OTOH is odd and I guees I can't argue with that.

I'm talking to old man Kanayama himself...Or at least, I DID talk to him, and then my wife took over. Much smoother that way...

Yeah, I know how Japanese names go, and so I put the kanji into the Jim Breen enamedic and it came out "Kanouyama" or "Kanoyama"...

How is it? Mine has almost NO draw, but it's got a nice buttery feel and it sure seems to be quality manufacture.

I'm hoping to give it a big brother soon...
