Thanked: 278I used to put the strop on a high clothes hook on the bathroom door, but I now hook up to a towel rail about a foot above waist height. It seems to give more control / less risk of losing grip on the razor.
Also when the strop was high I sometimes got aches in my arm muscles - not a good idea just before shaving.

I used to hang mine at shoulder height and found it quite comfortable. Then again I'd never tried anything else... until I started stropping at JoeD's place. Now I hang mine at waist level (doorknobs work quite well). This is another area where experimentation and personal preference come into play.

On a towel hook at upper chest high. I hold the handle down at the middle stomach area. It seems more comfortable than working at waist height. I also use a 3" strop so no 'x' pattern needed, reducing the chance of messing it up.

I was using my strops high up on a clothing hook in my bathroom. The strop would hang from a point higher than my head. This lead to my arm and hand getting very sore and I had trouble getting passed 50 laps this way. Then I found another spot in my bathroom that is slightly lower than waist height and I am loving it. I can easily do 80 passes with no muscle aches or angle problems.

Thanked: 335My strops hang from hooks in a board I fastened to the wall so that they would be "bar height" or 42" from the floor which is about average elbow height or transaction counter height or lean on the bar height. This way the strop is a convenient pull and flail height so I don't need to bend or stretch to use it.
It's worked well so far.

Door knob
I tried a towel hook that was above my head, but I felt I had less control and my shoulder would get sore pretty darn quick. I find it's easier to control pressure if I can lay the razor on the strop and have gravity assist.
