Thread: Sick of Waiting
-

A few quick things:
1. None of my ire is with Tony. The reason I've waited this long is because I have seen what a gentlemanly fellow he is, and I did not mean this as a personal affront to him in any way. I very much appreciate and admire his priorities and the way he handles himself.
2. Perhaps this was a problem with an uncleared cache on my computer, but I saw his shop as closed all of last week, and most of the week before....and often other times.
3. If I did misunderstand anything, it was production scale. I did not realize that it was so low as 20-30 pieces a week- and as such assumed he had them absolutely flying out left and right. I also felt that, when he gave such clear explanations for why things are how they are, that it would be impetuous and rude of me to ask for special treatment.
4. It was entirely in poor judgment to write this post before I had let the disappointment of missing yet another week sale of 3" New Standards pass. I see now that it was colored the wrong way by my language and curt syntax, and I would like to publicly apologise to Mr. Miller and anyone else who viewed this thread.

Thanked: 488Tony you have enough going on without this kind of post. Being familiar with what you are going through I'm very sorry this happened. Your a good man and I know you'll do anything you can to help anyone!
I also know you have been open several times over the last few weeks and I have seen inventory listed in stock during that time.

Benjamin,
Thank you for the apology, especially in public. It is never easy to humble oneself and I appreciate you doing so and being such a gentleman.
It did cross my mind that you may have decided not to email earlier out of respect for my family issues right now and were just waiting till I openned again. I never mind the requests, I just hope everyone understands when I cannot reply right away. Things change here daily with the health issues.
The browser cache issue seems to happen a lot. I have guys email each week, often asking about items I have not sold for months but they still have that page bookmarked and never venture back to the home page to see what the latest news is.
So, Ben and I are fine and there are no hard feelings on my end at all. He offered a very graceful apology and I appreciate that. We each understand where the other's situation.
As they say......"nothing to see here guys....lets keep moving"

Thanked: 3795Honestly, reading this entire thread, especially the last few posts, gave me a nice warm fuzzy feeling. I have a habit of letting people p*ss me off, and in doing so it's easy to let simple misunderstandings escalate (kinda like Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr.). I have to say that it was very heartening to see the way this entire exchange proceeded.
I have several strops. I'm not desperate for another, but I have every intention of seeking out a TM strop later. For now, I don't want or need to buy a TM strop that is needed more by someone else. I want to buy one both to experience his craftsmanship and to support his continued efforts--later. For now, I'll wait.
I lost my mother last year without any warning. Dealing with the aftermath with family members has continued to be difficult. I don't know Tony personally, but from what I have read of his posts and in his website, he is an honorable and decent person. I wish him the best in his difficult time.
Benjamin, if you'd like to hold off on buying a strop until you can get one from Tony, I will gladly loan you one of my old basic leather/linen strops. Send me a PM and I will get it out in the mail immediately.

Thanked: 10Tony goes above and beyond the call of stropping.
A few months ago while trying to figure out my newbie set-up, I e-mailed Tony with some questions about strops. I received answers quickly which bought up more questions. After a couple e-mails, he was kind enough to call me so we could talk in person. He didn't have to do that.
Over a couple phone calls and with his guidance, we figured out what I wanted, needed and didn't need. We also talked about some other straight stuff.
I think he probably got "the look" for being late for dinner after one of our visits.
I told him I was waiting for some bonus/incentive money to come in to cover the costs. Tony said no problem and that he would set aside what we discussed, since he had them at the moment. Let him know when the funds arrived. He didn't have to do that, either.
The one week expected turn around time turned into a longer drawn out affair which embarrassed me to no end. I kept Tony posted by e-mail to let him know I hadn't fallen off the edge of the earth and still wanted the strops.
All the while, sitting on one of his shelves was a complete rig that could have been out the door and money in hand. He still didn't have to do that.
Finally, the money came in and our transaction was completed. I am the very proud owner of a true piece of art and craftsmanship.
Tony Miller has the patience of a saint and is a shining example that I aspire to emulate.

I have not personally dealt with Tony but in dealing with Utopian in the past, and now seeing that offer, and seeing Tony's responses here, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Some people are just sooooo helpful.

Just wanted to chime in here and also say how much this thread has impressed me. Im a young guy, and the last forums i frequented as much as this were the xbox forums. That place is downright ugly at times.
You guys both handled this thread in such a civil manner. And im glad you scored the strop finally BK. I actually plan on making a post with my TM contact as well once i get the strop.
How do you like the New standard by now BK?
