Thanked: 21Illinois 835 linen?
Anyone know what the second fabric strop on an Illinois 835 is made out of? It says "fine linen finish" so I assume it is linen, but I've read a few places that most manufacturers call a fabric strop linen no matter what it is. The material is really pretty stiff.
Anyway, I get much better results using that rather than the webbing on my new SRD. I've promised the Illinois to someone else, so I'd like to find something similar to replace the webbing on my SRD with. I thought about ordering a linen replacement from TM, but not sure if it really is similar to the fabric on the Illinois.Last edited by captainboog; 10-02-2009 at 03:37 AM.

It feels plasticy right? I think all illinois are like that I think its impregnated with something.

Thanked: 21Yes, it definitely feels like it has some kind of finish on it or something. Very stiff and moving it in the light reveals a very minor gloss in the weave.

IIRC the linen in Illinois strops are impregnated with abrasive agents ("pre-pasted" for the lifetime).
